Here is a idea for a topic:

Hows about what would you like to see changed or developed in R/C boating, hulls, radios, props, engines, etc.

Me, I would like to see just how wild the design changes will be in hulls, lets say in the next five years.

Gene ;D

Fuel injection 8)

GPS speed measurement built into receivers 8)

2 strokes being banned for pollution :'(

Tim.... don't say that bite your tongue.... it will never happen i tell you (positive thinking).

Around here its not the pollution thing, But the noise issue is getting to be a big concern, Seems the city wants to expand their limits, another pond would fall under noise ordinances,

All it takes is a few to complain around here, and bang its gone. > :(

Jerry D. had a great article in RCBM about makin a simple canister muffler out of 35mm film cans, a small piece of brass tubing, and JB weld, There is just no reason not to run with a muffler.

Gene ;D

I would like to see something like this come down the road.

A fast electric injection molded graphite hull, fool proof water proof radio box. Motor mount all hardware, servo mounting ready to assemble. Researched, tested and raced by pro's. Tuneable with directions for different water conditions. A nice clear lexan cover of some kind that can be painted to personalize your model. I think this would help get new people involved. All you need is to be able to read and use a few simple hand tools. I enjoy the challange of RC boating but to say the least it's not easy or cheap. I would rather see more people than higher tech boats.

I think there's a need for one of the boating governing bodies (IMPBA, NAMBA, etc.) to organize a strong Water Management team to help boaters and clubs protect water rights.

Like Gene, I have a few places to run in my area (unincorproated land) that are now up for city zoning. Once this goes through my local ponds will be off limits. Having places to run boats is number one in my book of issues to deal with in the very near future.

I think more people could and would particapate in boating if they knew the pond down the street was usable.

I think the noise and the pollution issues invloved with I.C. RC boats will kill it in the long run. The future of RC boat will probably be electrics. When prices for advanced motors and battries drop down we will continue to see their expansion into the sport boaters ranks and eventually the die-hard racers will have to make a move.

Don't get me wrong sport gas/nitro boaters will still be around, but in the larger cities it will be more and more difficult to secure a pond. With no pond it's hard to run a boat.

Unless we see more development from the RC boating industry/community to reduce noise and pollution we will slowly continue to loose our ponds.

I see a growth in smaller boats, .12 and .21 sized with smaller courses to run on. I would like to see sprint boat racing for the electrics which is like a one boat at a time timed race through a water course that could be run in small ponds. With the smaller electronics coming out, I think that small fast boats will become the hot thing.

Now that boats have seen 120+MPH, we need a new goal to reach. 150 anyone? 200? Who knows? How about turbine powered boats?

Hi Guy's,

To protect the future of 2stroke boats put more emphasis on noise suppression. Things to consider:

rubber mounted engines;

properly tuned pipes;

boat cowlings/covers;

rubber mounted pipes;

other things

prop noise;

carb induction noise;

hull resonance

cheers

If local governments won't do anything about loud, like the I will shake the walls of your house, stereos in neighbors homes and in cars. I think they might have a problem enforcing other noise laws. It is called discrimination or profiling.

In my urban neighborhood you have chainsaws, stereos, motorcycles with straight pipes, 1000 watt car stereo systems etc. Some of them run into the middle of the night. They are all over the legal limit. So are the railroad and other industrial sites. If you call law enforcement they usually say it is very low priority and there is nothing they can do about it. I have tried and know this for a fact.

We should do all we can to reduce our noise pollution because we are a minority and it is good citizenship, but legally, according to the lawyers I know, they would be on shakey ground picking on boaters. Just playing devil's advocate!!! Hoping to stir up some debate.

I realize this is a political issue and being old I have lost a lot of my hearing accuity. A good reason for you young ones to reduce the db levels.

what.... what.... speak up there sonny i cant hear ya ;)

(trying to catch up to genes post count)

Gene,

Sorry if I got this thread a litle side tracked : :)

The issue we are having at my local pond is not due to noise - but the oil going into the water. Our venue is a regatta centre for rowing and there is a rule that our rescue / retrieve boat must have a 4 stroke outboard and not a 2 stroke. No problems with our little motor's and we are not muffled into the water like the rescue boat's outboard motor.

I still think that fuel injection would be the way to go forward, motor wise. Boat wise I think Aerodynamics and Hydrodynamics will play a bigger part.

Tim.

Tim,

Its not side tracked at all, the problems that R/C boating faces will be different for all the areas involved, Like what Ray said, his area the noise problem is different there.

I think the biggest problem we all face is getting new people interested and keep them interested so the hobby will keep growing, and the improvements will keep moving along.

RTR - ready to race. I just bought a Losi XXX-NT that out-of-box I can run it on the racetrack and not be embarrased. More r/c boat manufacturers should step up to the plate with race-capable boats. I bought a Top Speed over a year ago and am just now finishing it. I love to build but time is valuable and with a two-year old son...you know! ;) When he is older I won't have to worry about the xacto knife as much. So there is my wish...a decent starter race boat with readily available upgrades. ;D

hey freddy..... i know that 2 year old thing!.... my wife as due any day with number 2!

for a ready to run boat..... if anyone can do it I put my money on seaducer!

Guys

The hole ready to run thing scares me.. As we lose our ablity to build we will lose out ablity to tune, and so on and so forth..

Henry Ford begain what was the end of do it your self pride. Just stand in line there and place the bolt here he said.. mindless crap if you ask me. Some say Mr. Ford was the greatest man to ever modenize man.. shame I think :'(.. How many of you stand and push a button for a living? I did it for 7 years and its not for me. If we allow the manufactiors to do it all for us then what is left? Can we still call this a hobby?

Next time you are driving past the new housing area in your town, ask yourself if you would realy like to live their. Other then new carpit whats realy in it for you. Pride?? Maybe but most likey just a large payment.

Now if you built that house or at least had a hand in it some how what would you have? You would have pride and many many areas in the house that would spark conversation in some way.

I remember smaking my finger on that nail LOL. OR That sheeting lined up just right! Man does that make you feel good..

No different is model boating.

RTR is a shame and we only have our selfs to blame.

Our overweight society is a shame and we only have our selfs to blame

Fix it with a pill is a shame and we only have our selfs to blame.

I want it now but want nothing to do with it. Is a shame..

SHAME ON US..

Had to get me on this one dident you..

Mike,

You are missing the point of RTR or already built housing. It allows those less inclined or those with jobs in something other than a hobby shop or a development company to have a hobby or roof over his/her head.

Without RTR's, you can certainly seal the fate of the R/C industry. People have there problems with R/C Boat Modeler magazine, but the kid standing in line at the grocery store sees this magazine and thinks its great. He/She buys an entry level, RTR boat and is hooked for life. Step by step he/she advances to the point of being able to customize and experiment, the level you are at.

Who in the world would have time to build there own house or have any extra time to mess with part of it other than picking colors??

RTR's come in many form. I had a RTR Top Speed Tunnel. Great little boat and competitive and the local level, but not national. I wanted more.

I consider my Roadrunner to be RTR as i sent the engine and radio to Jerry Crowther and bam, a complete boat. As someone who has never built a boat before, what are the chances I could build a rigger that could compete on the national level (not that I could drive at that level!!)?? Zero.

Pride comes in many forms. Building your boat or house or having educated yourself to a high enough level that your salary allows the purchase of "toys" and houses.

Give RTR a break, it just may save our hobby.

Ok Youngin's,

Get yourself a glass of lemonade and set here on the porch for a while, The old fart is gonna spin a yarn here,

In 1970, I was 16 and got my first car a 65 Mustang, had a slight miss, so plugs and wires, gap the points and tweek the idle air screws and she ran great,

Fast forward to 2002, the Family Grocery Getter SUV,

Fuel Injected, 4 banger, ECU, ECM, MAP, O2, sensored thing-a-ma-jig under the hood, same problem, been fighten it for a month now and still dont know,

So whats the point ya say? In some ways techno is cool,

in others its a pain in the butt, kinda makes me wish for the days when things were simple. I am a tinkerer at heart and hope the industry surronding R/C does not go too far the other way.

Now Get!!!! Its time for my Nap!!!!! ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Gene ;D

Nothing wrong with tinkerin' or techno. But sometimes you have to be a realist and call a spade a spade.

I would love to design and build my own boat, hopefully someday I will. But can you imagine the beginner's frustration at having the only option be building a boat and go racing? It's often hard enough to get a nitro engine to run right much less have to fight setup and building issues.

HTB Tunnels are a savior for the beginning tunnel racer as at least you know the boat is right. That only leaves the driver to error which I cannot figure out how to correct yet ;D

Charley

Not to belabor my point but wouldn't it be great to have Seaducer put out a RTR 20,40??

The Villian RTR with a K&B 3.5?? Buy the same boat as the one the placed 2nd at the internats?? What a marketing gimmick and an opportunity for the entry-level boater!!

Sorry, I'm done now.
