40 to 50% nitro in a play boat? Russell, is there any reason why he can't use less? In my area the Hobbie stores don't sell anything over 30%. You have to special order it, and it's not cheap. I agree with the 18% or more for the oil. I personaly like using Wildcat fuel for my play boats. Every one carrys it, and they have one that is 20% nitro and 18% oil. Most other brands don't have that much oil and you have to add some your self. Keep it simple and have fun!

I beleve Jason said he was not going to race, just have fun with it. So for him, it's going to be a "play boat". To me, 40 to 50% nitro sounds like a waist of money, and a good chance to ruin an engine for a newbe.

Jason, the type of fuel to use is almost limit less. Everyone has there own oppinion. As long as the oil content is 18% or more you can use almost anything. Just stay away from the car and truck fuels. The oil content is way too low for boats and some brands don't say how much oil is in the bottle.

Good luck!

jason, what percentage of fuel can you get. you can run as low as 5% nitro and as highas 70% nitro, just run what your wallet will you run.

Well I was going to buy it from John Otto at Technology Fuels. I am going to buy 50% for my K&B 7.5cc outboard and thought that we(me and my other two friends) could all run fuel with the same nitro content. That way if one of us runs out we can share amoung each other. What should the head clearance be set at to run 50%. Also does anyone know what the needle should be set at when breaking this engine in. It looks like it has a single needle carb on it. Thanks again for the help.

That is what we all need to be reminded of - sharing.

Polishing or dusting trophies is a total waste of time and is far less satisfying than helping a fellow boater over come what to him seemed like an insurmountable problem.

You will enjoy the hobby more if you simply follow that sharing philosophy. Ron Byrd, who was by far the most effective CD at the lastest Winternats in Fl, kept reminding the boaters that these were toy boats and were meant to be fun.

Perspective is what many lose when we get too serious.
