Im running a 5/32'' flex shaft in my Matrix ultimate outrigger running a teflon liner and a piece of 5/32'' tygon tubing over the exposed 1/2'' of the flex shaft between the stuffing tube and the flex hex i grease the flex shaft with Mercury 's 2-4-c grease but after 6 minutes of running there is a 1/4 oz of water in the boat and no grease left on the flex shaft? There must be a better suited product on the market for this purpose.

A race lasts for about 1min. 10 sec.

3 heats total = 3 min. 30 sec.

You will lose grease as you run, and water starts to come in.

I would say that your water was coming in between the 5 and 6 min. mark.

Some people regrease after each heat.

You can always install a shaft oiler instead of greasing it all of the time.

If you can't build one yourself,Chris Wood makes them.

The type of grease is not your problem. The solution is to stop the water from coming into the hull in the first place. If you have more than a few drops inside from the drive shaft, then you need to fix your leak!

If you seal the inside end of the flex shaft/stuffing tube, water will not be able to easily enter the tube and flush out the lube. Slip a ca. 1" long piece of silicone fuel tubing (probably medium diameter depending on the cable size) over the inside end of the stuffing tube so that some hangs off the end and contacts the cable lightly forming a seal. Just a light touch will limit/eliminate the influx of water and keep the grease in place.

My race boats are almost completely dry after running, sometimes a few drops, sometimes none. FE boats are supposed to be dry inside!
