OK all you scale vets is this a 1986 painted as a 1985 ? It just arrived today, picked it up for $300 as you see it. Anybody want to guess the manufacture. It is a wood boat with a fiberglass cowl. I though it might be a Dumas, but didn't know if they ever made this boat. It doesnt have the air gap under the bottom like a Dumas. It does have a slight belly pan. Maybe these changes were made by the previous owner. Boat looks to be in very good condition. Came with an OPS .67 a prop and all the hardware, everything you see in the photos. Paint needs TLC and the graphics need replacing. Inside needs cleaning for fuel residue and probably a better radio box. Should the glass cowl windows be cut out and replaced with some sort of clear plastic ? What kind of clear plastic ? All replys are welcome. I can run this while I am building my Atlas hydro( when it warms up again ). Length is 43", width at back of sponsons is 23",bottom at the transom is 11 1/2" Thanks, Mark.

85 had the open drivers cockpit, 86 had the closed jet canopy. There were minor differences in the paint, check newton for pictures and redo it to match the 86. If you want to race cut out the windshield and install a driver figure, Painted on windshields are not allowed for scale hydro.

The way the inside is laid out tells me it's a modded Dumas, my guess would be probably a Miller American.

Where can I get the windows and driver figure for this boat ?

Couldnt really find any decent pics of the 1986 7-11 on Newtons web site, any other sources ?

MHR 8410: 1984 U-10 Miss Tosti Asti,1985 Miss U-7-11, 1986 Miss U-7-11(canopy)

Here are a couple to get you started.

David Newton had a 1985 7-11 so I'm quite sure he has pics of at least that one. Did you look on the www.newtonmarine.smugmug.com/Hydroplanes picture site??

Two of '85 hull and one of the '86. Keep in mind that these hulls changed very often so try to get yourself all the photos you think you'll need at a single race and use these as your documentation photos. I don't recall seeing the '86 with this Leyland looking scoop on the top of the cowl before. CHEERS !!! Bob

Here are a few more I found in news print/mags that show a different cowl with no high scoop. Who knows - it's PFM. CHEERS !!! Bob

Thanks, DASBOATMAN, it is definitely a canopied 1986. The pics will help a lot as the graphics and paint on it now are all wrong. I have already contacted Mike McKnight for a new graphics package. Time to repaint. thanks, Mark.

It is definitely a 7-11.
Never said it wasn't finished as a 7-11. I said the way it was built looked to be a modded Dumas Miller American kit due to the internal layout. You can make lots of minor changes that will change the outward appearance of a boat without changing the internal structure. A Miller kit to a 7-11 wouldn't take that much to pull off.

"Thanks, DASBOATMAN....."

You are welcome Mark. I have very little experience with Dumas kits. I did help a young boater in San Diego years ago, build a Miller from a kit he picked up very cheap. I hope that is my last experience with the Dumas Luan, Mahogany ply or what ever that crap is. Never have I bleed so much just working on one hull.

Before you put a lot of money into new paint and graphics, I would try to run the hull and see what you have. There are a number of people on this site that have done numberous Dumas hulls. I would pick their brains and see what you have. before getting deeplly involved with this project. Use the measurements in the Master Hull Roster to see if the numbers are right for an '86 Miss 7 Eleven, contact a couple experienced Scale boaters in your area and se what they think, and see if they can give you a hand / advice. Good Luck. CHEERS !!! Bob

My ISP just changed over their software today - Christmas Day.Maybe not the most sound of business decisions - "BONE HEADS !!!". Other than having their heads somewhere the Sun may never shine again - - it appears these attached pics are very poorly presented. I'll play with it some tomorrow and see if I can get you something usable.

OK HJ, I see where you are coming from about it being modded now. And BoatMan I will do some checking on the MHR for this boat. As far as I know from a good source in TX the boat has run quite competetively, hasn't been run a whole lot as scale class races are few and far between, same here where I live in La. I think I was told it was run as an open sport hydro? LOL. When I tell you that scale boaters in my area are non existent, believe it. I like a boat that looks like a real boat, not a reasonable facsimile, hence you see my avatar of my Scarab.

Hey Mark,

You're preachin' to the choir. I live in La Porte, TX - Galveston Bay side of Houston. Have been here 7 1/2 years. In that time, I have seen Scale boats race once in Crosby - Louie Baumann, Joe Dugas, Vince Baumann and John Borden. Last time I raced my Scale boat was at the 2010 NATS in Reserve, LA. Last year I built myself a Classic Thunderboat to have something to race around here. When news of this got out, I had old Nitro Friends questioning my sanity - calling me a Turn Coat, questioning my lineage !!! Har, Har !!! Not really, I just got caught up in the tale !!! I believe the above mentioned Scale boats are still around. Add one for Steve Muck, Rick Lamb, yourself and me - - and we just might see Scale boats race around here yet !!!

HOT **** !!!!!!!!! CHEERS !!! Bob

Now heres a kick in the head. I belong to Voo Doo model boat club and was at that race. I don't know how we missed each other ! I live only a mile from the pond.

Hey Mark,

Yep, I was there all week but I only raced the last day - Scale and Classic Thunderboat (CT). Here are some pics of my Oberto and Shorty' BBQ CT. When not entertaining the troops, I was helping Rick Bellinger and Rick Lamb with their numerous entered classes. Did I mention I like to talk. Lots of old Friends there I hadn't seen since the 2006 NAMBA Nats in Ft. Lauterdale. That would have been me with numerous containers of water being poured down my Big Mouth - - Har, Har !!! CHEERS !!! Bob
