Vince is a pretty busy guy....i doubt he has the time to build a hull. Not everyone enjoys working with wood either

The best tunnels are ones you can actually buy. HTB boats (http://www.htbboats.com/) have been around the longest of any and have a good reputation. Leecraft (http://www.leecraftracing.com/), though under new ownership, are also available. Good luck with the many other hulls. I notice that even the Topspeed II is discontinued, though a follow up hull has been in prototype testing for several years and looks very fast.

Lohring Miller

For an OS, my favorite is a Villain, hands down.

Tough to find,no longer made, but they're out there. Great sport boat! Many will agree.

I have one or more of most 3.5 tunnels and this is my opinion.

The 290 HTB is best suited for a mod motor with a pipe.Great boat!

The 260 HTB is a good sport boat, but a little short for some conditions.

Leecraft, 27" and also a little short

The L Y N X is FAST, but very finicky to run. Too many DNFs last season.Suited for the best drivers and obviously, I'm not.

The Sniper, I know nothing about, but would like to know more in the future.

Just my $.02 and all the above boats are good boats!

And I'm, nit pickin, I've seen all the above boats win races too.

The best of luck with what ever you decide.

But, Lohring is correct, the best boats ARE the ones you can buy.

the HTBs are very hard to beat. They are a great boat and fairly easy to set up. Mark has easy to follow directions as well as pictures on his web site of his set up. The best bang for the buck in my opinion.

mark scott/obnut on this site, can build you a very competitive WOF tunnel. but, i've got to agree with walt, the villain is my personal favorite. easy to set up, VERY forgiving/easy to drive, but also, hard to find :( . never ran one, but from what i've seen & heard, you can't go wrong with a HTB.

The HTB would be my 2nd choice after the Villain.

I have two 290s and two 260s, they are great boats for sure, but I really love my Villains for sport.

The VS1 is the best tunnel I have ever drove...

Does what you tell it and no messing around.. its a better sport boat then a mod boat but OK.. thats cool with me.

Villian for sure as a stocker. If your going mod many choices Htb seems good as any but today ship tomorrow now thats service............VILLIANS FOREVER im a sport tunnel guy

All of the boats listed are Quality,But the truth comes down to prop, fuel and set up. If you going to race trying new things and finding out is what makes you fast is the Fun of what we do. Boat racing can be fun or frustrating. Racing takes the chance to try new things. listen to what the people you are racing with do, Use ther setups and try to build from that. Greg

Back when I ran 45 tunnel I had a Aerotech which I thought ran pretty good. It was a basic copy of a leecraft. Based on that and what others have said Leecraft are very competitive and priced right. The Leecraft XTR-21 is one I would get. But definitely do Not get it in epoxy. Epoxyglass is garbage in my opinion for model boats. Polyester is way better, vinylester is the best of both worlds although it's not as heat resistant as poly it is very good. I say this not because of lightness or strength, but of heat distortion. I live in Florida and it gets hot in the summer, epoxyglass boats deform in the heat, plus all the aggravation in prep for painting. The leecraft come's in polyester, so that's what I would get.

I'm laying up the L_ynx in epoxy glass with gel coat. Epoxy typically has a much higher HDT than polyester, but it does have to be cured fully before pulling from the mold. Some gentle heat can help in that regard.

I had my share of epoxy boats and they might be ok in normal climates. But here in Florida in the very hot summer they can turn very "pliable" in the hot sun or if you leave them in your car for any length of time. I have to pass on epoxy resins for making molded boats. I'll stick with Poly or Vinyl resins, plus no pin holes to fix before paint.

Using the correct epoxy & post curing will solve that problem.
