So this afternoon I decided to take the funjet ultra out for a spin. Got to the site I usually fly and the sun was kind of in my face a little. I wanted to fly. See this plane does about 125 mph in level flight. It hauls butt. There was no way I was going home, so I put on a hat and fired up the plane. About half way threw the flight I came over the top, rolled and pulled. She came down to about 20 foot off the deck. Not a problem because it is a nice big field with only some trees on the other side. Well with the sun I kind of misjudge the depth. Just after going level, ran straight into the trees. At about 100mph. Well that was the end of that flight.

Got out the 8' ladder and a 10' piece of electrical conduit and headed for the tree. Was able to retrieve almost all the plane. Took a while to find the pieces and dig them out of the holly tree. Never did find the other servo extendtion cord and the battery. Spent a 1/2 hour looking for that pack. I wanted to see what happened to it at that speed. Speed controller looks good. Receiver is missing one antenna. Motor mount is busted all to hell. Motor still good. One servo is intact, other cord is ripped out.

For hitting the tree at that speed, I would of thought it would have been shreaded. I could try and put it back together but the wing spar is broke, plus some missing chunks of foam in areas. I figure I will just order a new kit.

Now what am I going to do for my speed fix?????????

Jeez, now I don't feel so bad about my rx pack taking a dump in my 37" sailboat with two heat remaining and I'm in 2nd place in my division at the T-37 Nationals at the Seattle Yacht Club. At least I bought my boat home in one piece.

Cannot say the same thing about my Reactor Bipe that I dumb thumbed into a football field last Saturday. :(

Looks like you two need some flying lessons, I might have to show you how to fly without breaking everything in site.

I plan on not "flying" my 20 Stock Kneeler next Saturday like I did up at Twin Lakes two weeks ago.

Jerry, I would hope you will fly that thing, then it will let me win and maybe get another win for the day. with over 4000 points separating you and I there wont be any need for you to even show up and you will still win the championship. so fly fly away!!!!

Rick

I have no problem with the flying part. It is the crashing that tears everything up. Maybe you can give me some crashing lessons........................

Mike

Mike: I haven't crashed a plane in years, so I can't really give you any help there. but I can probably show you how NOT to crash. we need to get the group together and go flying sometime. you missed the last get together. Rick

Rick

I get bored flying safely. I like to push the edge. Hence I put myself in situations where the ground and my plane meet. I am having fun. It is just gettting expensive latley. Burned up a bunch of stuff that had nothing to do with crashing. Need to regroup and rebuild. The last fun fly I was out of town working.

Mike

Let me know the next time you guys decide to get together. I dust off some of my old stuff and come play.

You got it Brian, would love to fly with you, with winter comming it might be in the spring. I need to get a date figured out and get everone together and burn some nitro and gas. and burgers! Rick

Mike don't feel bad. I pilled a .40 size nitro Sukoi into the ground on Sunday night also. Now I can fly pretty darn good. Been flying for 25 years now. The more you fly the more you will crash. Just the way it is. Besides a good landing is only a controled crash. :D

I am jsut happy when the plane comes back in one piece. That is a good day of flying for me. I can not count the amount of gear that I have ripped off over the years.

Mike

Sean, that was cool, it sucks that it cost you a plane though. I have seen many of those same things happen over the years at the flying field.
