All,

On a single water pick up, do you connect the pick up to the exhaust cooling then to the head or do you cool the head first then to the exhaust?

Has anyone ever measured the water temperature coming out of the head and the exhaust?

Thanks,

kez

Thanks Rick. Yes, nitro engine.

Although I have not measured the temperature at the exhaust flange, I believe it is hotter than the head. I am just wondering if there is any advantage to cooling the exhaust first then the head. This can prevent over cooling on an engine that likes to run hot.

Yes you can make a set up run better or worse by doing one before the other. But each set up and location plays into it.

Simply try it. That's the best way to tell.

Another thing is if the motor and pipe are down in a hull things may get too hot and benefit from exhaust cooling. Most set ups are over cooled.

Thanks Danny and Brad for your replies. I am going to try exhaust first then head and see how it runs. Given the cooling passage in the exhaust header is rather short, my guess is that the water temperature exiting the exhaust header is not that high.

Way back,.. I can the exhaust cooling header, ran the water first through the exhaust and then the head. The OPS ran well..

In my 21 mono I was cooling my header, mostly to save couplers as the engine is very low in the hull away from any air flow. I pretty much always have to restrict the water going to the head on my motors to get them up to temp so in the mono I actually ran the water through the header cooler first then the water jacket on the head just so I wouldn't have to restrict it as much and still run at the right temp. The header basically pre heated the water going to the head... It's six to one, half a dozen to another... As long as the engine is running at your targeted temp, which way the water flows doesn't really matter.
