Want to turn finishing resin white

I works very well. I add pigment and Cabosil to resin to make my own gel coat. Most pigment work with polyester resin and epoxy resin

I always found that the amount of pigment needed to get it anywhere close to covering like white epoxy paint or gelcoat you will have ruined the mix before you get it a solid color.
Too much pigment weakens the mix considerably.
Use it sparingly. A little goes a long way but if you want complete coverage like paint or gelcoat you are MUCH better off using gelcoat or paint instead.
Too much and it messes with the cure especially with epoxy.

I agree completely with Daniel. Much better to seal with epoxy, then paint with white 2 pack urethane auto paint. Urethane paint is tough stuff, I even think it's better than epoxy. I have cleared a gas hydro with 2 pack urethane, even coated the inside of radio box, later had a lay down servo mount that was epoxied on the bottom of the box pop off during a high speed "stuff". So sand the slick surface before bonding anything to it, including top coats. I dont like sandable primers on rc boats, I'd rather just shoot an additional coat of the base color and wet sand out any flaws, then another base color coat.

PS Klasskote works well, too. But I sure like 2 pack urethane for the clear. It's so shiny and water clear.

PS Did I mention I really like catalyzed auto paint.

Well I did use it...and the gelcoat look did not happen.....yes it is white...and very smooth..i will hit it with some 240grit then spray the interior like I always do...some ideas work.... And some don't....

I have used Klasskoat for years on my nitro boats. On occasion I have added just the color to the resin mixture,takes a little longer to cure but works very well!

Like has been stated, colored resin does not give the same coverage as gel coat. Gel coat is extra refined resin that is heavily pigmented and has dispersing solids. As an experiment I built a cowling once with yellow colored resin in a black mold. It took four coats to hide the black of the mold.

I guess you could add surface cure wax to gel coat to try to make it a surfacing resin, but I would think you would retain all the bad characteristics of gel coat, like it's brittleness and propensity to spider web and crack. I would think a coat of klasskote white would be better than a coat of modified gelcoat. I think a coat of urethane white might be even better than klasskote white.

An advantage of gel-coat over resin is it will seal it from moisture. If you thin gel-coat with styrene it flows better through a paint gun and will give a satin finish that is easier to sand and polish. Also it bonds chemically to polyester resins.

Styrene use to be available at fiberglass supply places years ago. Is it still available at those places Mic?

Mic, we leave Christmas Eve this year and will be at our place in Sarasota a little after noon on Christmas.
