I'm building a new fire fighter 45 and will be using a SGX cowl.

The engine will fit under it without having to cut a large hole in the top. I'm a little worried about the heat, so I want to cut some venting holes on the side. What is the best location and what would be a good hole size/shape?

Thx,

I will post some pics of mine.

A lot of it depends where your carb is.

Pics to follow.

Tnx a lot, looking forward to it.

I'll be running a MAC45. Here is a picture without the cowl:

That cowl looks a little different that mine.

The whole point is to allow air in and water out, and sometimes trial and error is the only way.

You want to exspose the head, look at were the cooling exit is.

tnx for the pictures. I'll drill a small hole on top for the wateroutlet and will cut a triangle hole on the left side just like yours.
