Hi guys,

I am new to electrics, but have dove in big time due to a deal I made to help out a college fund raiser. To make a long story short, I have 4 UL 1s.

Two of these boats have ran great after a little tuning. One boat, however, runs like 10 feet and stops. I have another that runs about a lap and stops. Now, the other two run perfect. I switched speed controlers, after that, the one that stopped ran good, and the one that was running good now planed and stopped. Does this mean the speed controler is bad? If so, has any one else had this issue? I would ask if it was something I did, but one of them never took off except to start plaining until I switched its speed controler. These two boats are stock. The two that have been working well, I have had a 440 three blade, a 1640 two blade, and a 642 two blade all with good results. A little advice would be appreciated. thanks, Ken

Hi Ken, there have been a few problems like what you have stated with the UL1s. Folks have been calling the supplier (Tower Hobbies) and they have been pretty good about replacing the speed controllers.

Best of luck,

Tino

Ken,

For your purposes, I would stick to the stock plastic prop. There seems to be an issue with the controllers when you start "proping up".

I've been running my UL-1 since December with an m445 (among others), I have never even put the stock prop on the boat. No ESC issues, never even hit the ESC cutoff. I watched one at the LA SAWs in November run 65 mph with a 2147 prop, it never shut down. The problem appears to be spotty, a fellow at the Dallas race yesterday would run his for 2 laps and it would shut down; it happened in 2-3 different heats. He tried two different packs, stock prop, no good. It is not the prop that's being run, it's the ESC. Contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement.

.

That is the strange part, you see the first two ran so well, we just set the props up with them, Top speed here is not an issue. and even though we did prop up on those two boats. The two I had problems with didnt go out till this weekend, and they never worked, I never got a chance to switch props on these two as they never ran until I swapped speed controllers with the two that did run. This, of course, made the two run that didnt work, and the two we had been running now had the issues I spoke of, which led me to believe it was a speed controller issue. Ken

Ken

You puffed the cap.. put a new one between the pos and neg leads of the esc..

E mail me at work and I can get you more info.. its an easy fix
