Tiger King source coil failing

Hi fellows I would like to hear from you that run TK if is this a common issue.....we have some modded engines running strong but with source coils fails...even stock motors presenting these problems.Today after two tanks a new unit died with no apparent reasons.....let's hear some advises..

Open the air gap up all the way up to the top ,a friend had two source coil go bad,he open it up and it run very good now

Lose the source coil up and pull it to the top and that will give you a bigger air gap

I was having trouble with mine, went through 2 of them. I put the source coil all the way up, and didn't mount the ignition coil to it either. The air gap is maxed out. Since doing this it has ran great.

Here is what Dave Marles replied to a post I made on jrcbd.

"The source coil to flwheel needs the maximum gap possible and then zero problems. Do not use a coil relocator that uses the source coil mounting bolts because most of that type does not allow enough clearance. It took us a while to figure out this problem."

I have used a tighter clearance with the coil relocator bracket with no issues. On all my TK engines.

The idea of opening the coil to flywheel gap is a good idea on several levels. First and foremost concern; performance is great at .020" Second, there is less drag loss from magnetic pull at high RPM. Third, there is less chance of coil/flywheel strikes at high RPM when the cranks flex on the heavy flywheel end.

At SRI Motorsports, we set all our customer's Pioneer coils at .020", with the plug gap @ .015". They don't skip a beat to way over 20K, and start after 1 to 2 pulls.

Seems that's working now but time will tell ....
