Dave since none of the "experts" have chimed in on this, a good place to start with the strut is to set the bottom of the strut the same depth as the bottoms of the sponsons to the bottom of the boat. For example, if you measure from the bottom of your boat to the bottom of the rear of the sponsons and that measures 1 1/4 inches, then set your strut 1 1/4 inches from the bottom of the boat to the bottom of the strut. Also, It is usually best to set the strut parallel to the bottom of the boat. Sometimes you have to put some positive angle in the strut to raise the rear of the boat, depending on what prop you are running. Hope this helps out some.
