Thrust Washers

So on a 1/10th scale Fe hydro using a 3/16 Reverse Right Hand Wind cable is it necessary to use a thrust washer to stop end-loading the motor bearings most small motors bearings are not designed to take much thrust loading.

And is the best location at the strut or between the the flex shaft coupling and the aft motor bearing.

I know on 1/8 scale Nitro/FE boats we set the a gap between the strut with drive dog or run a square drive flex shaft setup

I would say you're going to get a 50/50 answer on this. Personally, I don't run a thrust bearing between the collet and motor.

also.. we push on them in a marine application.. we pull on them in planes.. and we produce side load in a heli.. so.. I am with Michael on this one.. not needed!

If you did want to run a thrust washer, use the Tamiya one OSE sells. This a ball bearing type that just needs a little oil every now and then.
You still need to leave the appropriate gap at the end of the cable.

Or you can always run a square drive and remove all thrust on the motor.

I run a thrust washer on my older style "pressed end' (NEU) motors to stop the end ball being pushed off and the causing big issues

What you are saying is that I do not need one at all really?
