I've gotten to be fairly good at some prop mods and sharpening but I had this one prop that is so thin it's incredible. How does one go about thinning hte entire blade. I'm thinking about trying one of those dremmel sanding wheels with the flaps of sandpaper on it. \\ \

Any suggestions....

I don't know what type of props you are doing but for hydros and 'riggers you can make them too thin. I've seen them fold up from someone going too far.

I use a 1" by 30" belt sander and cut the belt down to 1/2" wide .. Works great and you can see what going on at the same time. Scott

Guys,

I hope you are wearing dust masks when sanding/buffing props containing Berrylium. It is a nasty material that will get into your system if you are not careful. I sharpen and thin my props with files, wet sand the props and then hand buff it to finish with a cloth and metal polish.

It will take a lot of elbow grease to thin the blades using hand tools. Another option is to leave the job to those who are equipped to work the metals safely...and buy the prop already thinned and balanced.

Just my 2 cents..

I use Dykem layout die on the blades & file it off.Repeat the process till your happy.I also check to make sure the blades are the same size first(most aren't) & then balance.
