Has anyone used Teflon to make a header seal? It seams like the stock seal on my Picco burns real fast. I've started using a MAC header and seal which lasts longer but I'd like to try the Teflon. Will it seal both and I.D. and and O.D.?

Joe,

If you mean betweeen the header and the engine, then the teflon will stand the temperature but it will deform which will probably allow it to leak.

Joe,

I made up a few seals for my K90s out of teflon. I left them pretty thick, about .125", and made up new headers to fit. They worked great. If you try to duplicate a NR seal make it so that it is slightly tapered so the header will slide on and get tight.

Chris,

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of it by any chance?

Tim.

Did you heat it up and stretch it over the motor or machine it to fit?

Well, it was easy enough to make. putting the thing on was a differant story. Nothing heat and a dead blow can't cure!

Just be careful not to breathe the fumes in when you heat it - very toxic!

I try not to get my face too close to a blow torch. It's bad for the complection and can be very painful!

LMAO!

The teflon will still give off fumes when the torch has been removed tho' - just a public safety reminder :p :p :p

Thanks for the advice. These boats have about a million things that will kill you, not to exclude that little thing that spins on the back when the motor is running. I had someone prop me in the butt once in Virginia. Fortunately, it was off center. It looked like I had gotten attacked by a dog.

Joe,

I machined the ID and OD so that it was a light press fit. I could press them on by hand, but I had to use a screwdriver to get it off.
