can you make a rigger with too light of transon weight? i am doing this by setting the sponson ride tips on blocks and weighting the transom.

thanks jon

I would think that it might be possible. It would seem that some weight is needed the to help keep the prop in the water and to keep it from nose-diving in the chop.

Jon,

I don't think you can make the transom weight too light. You have to be

strong enough to hold on the rudder. Prop weight is CRITICAL and I don't

think you can make them that light.

Thanks,

well i am making myself a gas rigger and right now with everything in it the weight at the prop is only 1.5 lbs(whole boat 9.5 lbs). this is well under the ratio i use on my 20 boats. if all else fails i could add weight at the transom. people say that it is light anyways.

mark i am talking about prop weight. not the intergity strength of the transom.

One way to find out! Let us know the results. I would think that being too light though would possibly make it bounce on the prop or propwalk especially with a highly pitched prop but I'm far from being in the know with 'riggers.

i will do what i can ron. this is a first for me. it is off my new 21 warlok design. the whole boat is designed for lift. front to rear, so i think it might need to be light in the tail.

Where does it balance in percentage of afterplane? I know Gary's Hawks balance about 15% and the Eagles and my own hulls around 25%. I've heard of some scale boats at 0% or right at the TE of the front sponsons.

if i showed you i would have to kill you. it will be unveiled at the hobbyshow in evansville this month. then in ft. wayne in march.

terry

about 15% of the total weight on the prop.it might just work?

thanks jon

terry about 4 1/8 behind the ride tips of the front sponsons. +/- 1/16"

And what's the distance from the trailing edge of the fronts to the drive dog?

That would be 4/28 or about 14% which is a forward CG from what I've seen, but I've also heard of some scale boats balancing right at the front sponsons. I'm sure it'll run well if you spend the time at the pond to get it trimmed out properly...
