Peter Richards(Climate) and I just got back from the CAFE CUP race in Cleveland. We had a fantastic time with a really great bunch of racers.

We saw a very impressive boat run by Steve Vasdekis in the unlimited offshore class. I'm hoping that someone (Steve?) can post some pictures of his boat because I think that all of you FE fans would enjoy seeing a very fast and super stable (did I say FAST?) large electric deep vee.

I'm pretty sure that the hull is an Aeromarine 43" Challenger and from what I saw it has an Aveox 1800 series motor on a FDM gearbox and 32 Sanyo "C" cells.

Steve, if you're out there , can you tell us more and do you have any pictures that you can post here for all to enjoy.

Here are a couple of pictures. You pretty much covered most of the specs. Here are a few more. The motor was an 1817/2Y with a 1.21:1 gear ratio turning a graupner K48 plastic prop. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Steve, Beutiful boat!!! What are you getting for speed and run time? What is the wieght ready to run?

I got a big boat project in the works for the winter.

Thanks

LOU

Steve

have you tried direct or are u aimimg at a runtime with that setup - I imagine the 1817 would turn a 48mm prop with ease....

The weight of the boat at just a guess is about 15lbs. I was getting mid 30s and the runtime was just a few seconds over 4 minutes, I would cross the finish and the batteries would dump and I would have just enough juice to get to shore. Now remember guys this is ducking and juking for position in a race which draws more current then just sport running. Now If I would adjust the timing I would probably get a minute or so more, but drop some speed or loosen the hull up a bit, but risk getting squirly and flipping. Andrew that boat is 3 years old and I thought I needed the gear then, but if I were to do it again I would go direct drive. Also Andrew when LI-PO gets within reach look out!

Didnt they say on rrr it didnt run? If it did run any video or pictures? On the bench it makes the other boats look like tiny!

yes this was a very impressive boat.. I think steve could have drove it with his eyes closed since the thing was point and shot..
