well i finally got the plans and most of the material together to make this JAE 45 build happen. i started a step by step album to share with you guys. pics are in my gallery, i welcome the JAE team to make any inputs as we go along. Sorry little brothers i'm really not trying to steal your thunder(JAE 12/21)

you got wood today huh? oh sorry lol
don't go that way.......this i know for sure! B)
I was looking at the photos you have so far.. are you planing to do the Hall type sponsons on this boat? Also what are you using for templates? I saw some sorta clear plastic maybe your using? Look forward to watching your build progress....
i'm going to build the "G" sponson for this boat...i plan on doing a set of "H" but the "G" are first. the templates are a clear plastic called C-temp the guys in my club SKY-Hydro put me on to it. we usually get it from the WRAMS show but i will find the info on where to get it

I've never seen the clear stuff on their web site. Rod Geraghty turned me on to this stuff...It works great for making templates. www.seetemp.com

hey Richard great to hear that you are stepping up to the BIg Boys, the foam i had is some large pieces of blue insulation foam 2" that i got from lowes some time ago, the divinycell i had a large "sample" from DIab that i kinda wasted for the last 6 years but i had enough to make one set of sponsons. as far as hardware i'm using a Brown 45 mount , they come drilled and tap for whatever motor you use MAC/PICCO/CMB the strut i'm plannig on using is a mini extended speedmaster and a speedmaster rudder, i'm not settled on ther rudder yet. i have a Brown parabolic 45 pipe and alot of props to try, my thing right now is the motor.... a few years ago it would most likely be a CMB but NOW with the PICCO and AA45 my head is spinning, just need to get the boat built by that time i would have settled my mind on the motor B) i'm finished one sponson and i will post pics in my gallery soon....it was so easy! ;)

Cant wait to see the progress.. as for the foam you can check Micheals for the green foam in large blocks . I think they use it for plastic flowers as a base inside of pots ;) ..

45 build is going great! got a few ideas to try pics are in the Gallery. on another note the foam(divinycell) is harder than that stuff they use in the fake flower pots so i would suggest getting the blue insulation foam u can get from home depot or lowes

Thanks for all the info! I will check my local Lowes tomarrow for the blue foam...

What are you using for blocks in the sponsoons to install the boom tubes?

i'm going with the Brass tub and solid 5/16 carbon fiber rod set up, what i plan on doing is rough up the brass tube and epoxy them in

This is how I did my 21, they are one piece drilled for 5/16 , left a larger dia. on the outside to make the button head shape. They are glued and inserted from the outside of the sponson so there is no way they can pull out.

Jim,

Are you going to make a these for sale? :D

I saw this method used on one of the larger JAE test hulls when Dave Hall came out to Huntsville and it appared to be a great idea.

I just dont have the resources to turn my own... ;)

Alex, I could make a few sets if people really want them but not a lot. They require that you open up the holes in the sponson sides a little bit so you can get a slightly larger wall thickness.
