I'm building a kep's 21 rigger and in the plans it calls for a s9551 low profile servo 122oz. This servo is not cheap $90. Found a Scanner RC low profile 90oz 2 BB all metal gears $27 shipped is this enough power and has any one have any info on if thy are any good. http://www.scanner-rc.com/index-enter.htm

I've not heard anything about the servo you mentioned, but I've been using these in my 21 riggers for years with no issues and they are about the same price.HS225MG

I do prefer Futaba servo's but this one has not given me any reason to change it yet.

A 225MG is all you need for a 21 rigger. I have used them for over 8 years and lost only one when I stripped the gears when I hit a buoy. It is ideal for good torque and light weight needs.

I think the reason for the low profile servo is with the hight of the tub you would have to lay a standard servo on it's side. I would like to stand the servo up in the tub. Have read other threads and there seams to be many different servos being used by every one. Was just wondering what is the least amount of power in oz that would work for a rudder.

The gear sets are only $4 for this servo.

I guess I'm a 1%er because THIS is what I use in my 20, 40, 60, and 90 outriggers and mono and have not had a problem turning ANY of them or with the servos failing.

Thanks for all the input. On my first boat went kinda over board on steering servo JR DS8711 403oz runs down the batt. real fast.

I have had great luck with Futaba 3305's. All my 21 outboard steering and my 45 rigger rudder. When weight is a factor I have used a single 3305 on a .45 tunnel with no problems. That said for bulletproofimg a 45 I go with an all metal gear S5301.

The reason I am asking what the least amount of power needed for a 21 rigger is,I am trying to use a small batt to cut down on weight.

Has anyone used the lipo batt in a rigger and if so witch one.
