Placing a 12" ruler on the bottom the hook goes from the transom to about 8" forward and peaks around 1/32" at 3" forward. Not a lot but should it be absolutely flat?

Terry, I measured all 3 of my 20 Speedmasters and both of the version 2 boats have the same hook as yours. The version 3 is flat.

A friend of mine just bought a SD 45/3 seaducer /G26 mod from Jerry Crowler and after many trials the boat could no run balanced in the keel.

Taking a close inspection in the botton I saw this kind of hook in the rear portion near the transon and we've started making a correction filling the inside with some layers of fiber cloth to sand the outside.

Now the botton is perfectly flat and speed improved in many miles with the boat running absolutely positive in water.

Personally I don't see this hook as part of the dynamincs in any kind of hull but very frequent in mono's due to their botton shape mainly when they are manufactured with poliester resins that contracts more in flat not structured surfaces .

I don't know if the hook can interfere too much in a small boat but certainly made a huge difference in the big one!.

Just talked to Chris Fabbro on the phone, he was very helpful. He said the hook is supposed to be there on the earlier hulls, the latest one should be flat as Joe mentioned - sure glad I didn't start trying to "correct" it!

I also asked him about a problem I'm fighting of the motor leaning out in the corners. I mentioned I had kicked the bottom of the rudder forward to loosen the hull and that helped, but he also suggested lifting the outboard right trim tab (I run 4) past level, has anyone tryed this?

I'm thinking of maybe trying to mix the 3rd channel with the rudder to richen the mix in the corners, any comments on this?

Terry,Leave the hook there. Just make sure the CG is correct.

It's right at 8 3/4" where it should be. I was really wondering if the hook was causing the hull to "plow" in the corners and cause my leaning problem... :(

Terry,

It only takes a few seconds to get through the turn. Will the richer condition happen before you exit the turn?

Not sure, lines are very short between the needle and carb. Hope to find a simpler solution though...

but he also suggested lifting the outboard right trim tab (I run 4) past level
Raising the outboard tab in the turn does the same as raising the inboard tab in the straights. It loosens up the boat.

Is "loosens" a word???????????????????????????????????

I've been only running 2 tabs for that reason. They only come into play in the corners and the boat doesn't seem to need them. My boat corners well without them.

Hears somthing to cheak regarding leaning out in the turns are you loosing water presure in the turns if so then this will heat the engine up and lean the mixture worth looking at.

Think I'll take the outside tabs off next time out, thanks!

I put another hole on my Speedmaster rudders for just that reason, pretty sure it's getting consistant cooling, thanks.

Gear drive...?  Maybe the motor is too high?

Might be something to that, I'm going to play around with moving another "hopper" tank around. I do have a 1oz inside the main tank at the CG but it's on the left side of the boat, I might try one on the right.

Thanks Jr.!!!
