I wonder how much is the average speed with a stock engine for a 3.5 Tunnel Hull?

...and with a high performance engine like Noverossi or Tecnopower 3.5?

Thks,

MS

what larry said, being able to carry the straight line speed is good, but maintaining as much as possible through the turns is HUGE. i've seen more close races won with corner speed than in the straights....... the faster "stock" tunnels are prolly approaching mid 50's & mod tunnels in the mid to lower 60's - in a straight line - in heat racing trim. but the speed is all but useless if you can't run a tight line while maintaining a good amount of that straightaway speed.

Are even faster than I was expecting.

At that speed the boat becomes an airplane...you fly it.

Is the same speed for size 7.5cc tunnel hulls?

robin, even the speeds posted above must be on a pretty "happy" radar gun...... I love the land of internet speeds.

the speeds i posted for kentley porter were on official impba timing equipment. the others were "guesstimates" on what i have seen at our d-12 races & wtc events. but A LOT of those fast azz boats didn't last more than a few laps before they were floating upside down.......randy premo/tunlbotr's lynx is one of the rare exceptions, it's fast going straight & turning right, CONSISTENTLY (important word right there).

Amen Robin... ;) Key is a balanced and consistent heat racing setup. SAW is a totally different setup as you don't need to think setting the boat or trying to "force" the boat to turn.... ;)

By the way, 70+ needed to win???? Baxter, that takes ALL the heat off of you!!!..... ;)

Boy, My radar gun and setup must be off. Or things are WAY faster down south. :D I have the latest Vision 20 running a mod .21 paired up with a Silver Bullet pipe. The GC is set further forward than anyone else that has shared there set-up with me. The propshaft is set with .4 degrees tucked under and I can barley break the 50MPH mark with out blowing off in a 5-7 MPH breeze on a small pond.

The fast sport/stock .21 tunnels up here are only hitting around 44mph.

Miguel,

To answer your question about a stock motor. I would say they are running between

37mph-45mph. I am running at 40mph-43mph depending on the air and water condition. This is by using my new Bushnell III radar gun and the 43mph was backed up three times.

Most of all you just want your boat to run in the speed range and handle well without blowing over or spinning out in the corners and you will win races!

Tim

Kris,

I have...But they weren't 21 tunnels.

Greg, I think we are about 850-1000 ft give or take a few.
