I’ve been using the ultimate material Mike Hughes sells, it’s pricey but it the best I’ve ever used and reused. It never shows any wear. I heat it in hot water and make the transition from 7/8 to 1”. I also use winded as an assembly lube to help get it into position.

Over the years I've used every type of coupler material, but I've never worn out a piece of the black, I believe Viton hose that Mike sells.

Should be “Windex” as assembly lube.
