Hi Guys!

Gotta send a boat to Victoria, Australia......... Post Office says the box is too big, and UPS wants over $300.00!!

Anyone have any suggestions??

Bob,

I do a lot of shipping to Australia but the restrictions are tight. The largest box to AussieVill is 84 inches at the post office.

So I wrap the boat in either bubble wrap or butcher paper and then wrap the box around that and tape the crap out of it so it's like your shipping an unboxed boat instead of a big box. It's not pretty but it works.

What are you shipping??

They got you by the short hairs, Fed-Ex economy price is a good deal.

Hulls are all around $300-350 now since Sept 11, I'm really feed up with it!

Half is USPS raking you over the coals, the other half is Australia's limit on package size.

Bob,

I was able to get a Aerotech 7.5/11cc OB down to GTR via USPS.. As Rod stated, it was just wrapping the box around the boat. Cut everything else out. The "box" made limit by 3"..

Mark.

Good Luck....

Hi Guys

I have been assisted with shipping stuff down here by a number of members of this board & I appreciate their efforts. Big Daddy is just about legendary when it comes to making a strong small package. But I guess with 6 kids he's good at packing large objects in small packages. ;)

In all seriousness though postage can be a pain and Rodney and I have very good ideas abut what can and can't be shipped. What are you planning on sending? USPS is the only way to go if you can fit in the size limitations. UPS & FedEx use almost the same type of limitations with a much higher price.

I've found that restrictions imposed by the USPS to be far worse than Australia post. The largest single item I have sent with Aust/post contained 3 gas riggers (48 inches long) but I can't get a 43" hull out of the US using USPS so I've started on the mold for my own mono hulls.

Cheers, Danny.

Hey Danny, found the same thing here. If you check the USPS website though you will see that the restrictions vary from Country to Country. I couldn't understand how the Italians we're getting hulls and we couldn't. My local post will only take a 48" box as well but they said if I take it to Melbourne I can post a larger box! Crap really isn't it? I know Goran has shipped hulls to Perth when I couldn't <_<

Hi Guys!

WOW, What a hassle!!

The size restrictions on US Postal shipping to Australia are rediculous!! Box can't be over 79" total length plus girth. I made the smallest possible box to get a 32" tunnel and some bubble wrap into and it was just under limit.........

and then the bad news...........boat, box and a starter ended up weighing 16lbs.

The clerk at the post office didn't believe it any more than I did when the total came up to $82.00. but yes, after double checking, 4 to 6 day service was $78 and change. with insurance, $82 !!!

And they want to raise rates again??

That's a bargain!

Should have left the starter out, they are cheap enough over here! Unless it was one of those smicko Dynatron HD ones? B)
