I have a 6 scale that seems to be laboring no matter what prop I use. I thought maybe the shaft did not have enough clearance to the strut from the drive dog. I added more clearance and it seemed to help but it still bogs and dies after about a lap. 1 of the wires on the shaft is higher than the rest and is flat spotted. Could it be binding in the stuffing tube?

A couple of questions; Is that a 1/4" shaft?

Do you have severe bends in the stuffing tube?

What size is the stuffing tube ?

Are you greasing the shaft ?

Not trying to insult your intelligence, just touching all the bases

the shaft might be un-winding and bulging under load binding in the tube.

any recent changes before this problem ? carb ? prop ?

try a new shaft if all else checks out

good luck

No insult. Yes, it's a 1/4 shaft in a new boat. Stuffing tube is 5/16 .014 and has a little more bend than others of mine but not much. It has a slight down bend to keep the front down.

The boat is new and has had numerous issues but it seems to have developed this issue after putting a slight down bend in the strut. To keep the front down. After looking at other used shafts it has a similar wear pattern to them.

Did you change the diaphragm on the carb? Ive had boats go out for a lap and die. Change the diaphragm and good to go.

enough fresh air to the carb ?

exhaust pipe heat trapped inside ?

can you test run without the cowl ?

try a new carb

Couple of tips ,use bigger brass for stuffing tube, and get some sandpaper and wd40 or similar and sand the flex for a while ,,you will notice a difference.

You stated that it developed this problem after you put a slight bend in your strut I would say there is you problem. If you need to move your strut down it should move the stuffing tube downward in a nice smooth angle not a sharp bend that could cause flex cable drag.

from experience, If everything is in good working order the bogging/dying out after a lap or so tends to be not enough fresh air to the carb. Try running with out the cowl to see if that is the problem. If that doesn't help you may need a new ring. Especially if it has ingested water.
