Hey Guys,

Can anyone tell me what servos are being used these days for a Twin Rigger?

Thanks

Tracy

Most in this area are using mega 1/4 scale hitec (805). just about any 1/4 scale would work or even the higher torque models of standard servos. remeber you will strip less gears with larger servos because they have more surface area.

Futaba 5301 1/4 scale servo has more than handled the steering duties on the last 3 twins I've built & owned. And Allen is absolutley right about the added strength with bigger gearsets B)

The specs on the S5301-

SPECS: Speed: .29 sec/60 deg @ 4.8V - .23 sec/deg @ 6V

Torque: 233 oz/in @ 4.8V - 292 oz/in @ 6V

(16.8 kg/cm @ 4.8V - 21 kg/cm @ 6V)

Length: 2.4" (61mm)

Width: 1.2" (30mm)

Height: 2.0" (51mm)

Weight: 4.4 ounce (125 grams)

Connector: Male "J" type with approx. 5" wire

You also need to take into consideration how much power those babies draw. I know the 805 draws enough to kick the failsafe in if you try to run it through your receiver. I personally wouldn't run one off an AA pack, y connector direct to power and sub C's minimum.

I run mine with a Y harness as the BEC recievers drop the input voltage on the battery line. I plug the y harness into the rudder servo channel on the reciever with the servo on 1 side of the "Y" and the batteries thru switch and into the other side of the "Y". that way the servo gets the full pack voltage. 5 x 1400mAh AA sanyos - works great as it defeats the BEC circuit without killing the reciever.
