may be starting some fights here but i have to ask, who has owned seaducer hulls and built them to jerrys specs and they ran well and who had to deviate from the plans?. i have a 20 mono (33") and it did not run well built to spec, i am starting to change things around and its working better, picked up first place at the last dist race only because andy had a bad day. i even had to mod my gas cat & mono from the plans. so lets here it from you guys

I was running his nitro 20 only thing i did was change strut setting a little and it took off he gets you in the ball park as far as strut setting everything else will be right on.

me and andy both run 33" boats , same prop, just about identicle and there is so much difference in the way they run it amazing, reshaping the rudder helped and mark shoulunds prop works really well, still tuning, its getting better

I was running a OPS pipe set between 7 3/4 and 8 inches plus was running Marks 1614 prop boat is still for sale very very fast and stable

Ive got an SD-3 20 mono, set up per Jerry and have yet to change ANYTHING and its has always run great, right off the bench...ive had the boat the since the first year the SD3s came out and have been very happy with it...... one of these days, i might stick a newer motor in it, as im still running an old CMB 21LS in it......great little motor, but the new 20 motors have a good bit more speed.......

my 29" boat ran well out of the box with little tuning but that 33" is a challenge. some rudder and strut changes are starting to work out, will try to run it sunday and see what happens

yep, all seaducer hardware and started with the 440/3 and had bad pulling to the right and when you corrected it with the rudder the boat would lean to the left. set the boat with mark shoulunds prop and it started to work much better and way more speed. hopefully i can run it tomorrow and do some more testing

Make sure your strut is at nuetral position then take and start kicking it out till the boat starts getting loose.

i have the strut set right now with a lot of neg and it is still very loose, taping 2 sticks of prather lead on the bow helps but it looks like a c/g issue, started to move some things around to get some weight relocated but did not test today, maybe during the week

I've been thinking John... Over the years that hull has gotten more and more loose on the water. When you first got that boat is was fast and tight on the water. Now it's almost as if the hook is gone from the hull. Maybe heat warp? I dunno. But i did find on my seaducer that the transom had seperated from the rear part of the deck, causing my strut angle to change and cause the boat to run too loose. Just food for thought. See you in sanford!

went out on a local lake on thursday and ran the ducer, not a good day for small boats, water was simlar to lilly pond in nh. it seemed to run better but didnt really get it on the pipe for any length of time, we will see how it runs in sanford. my next race is in maryland the end of the month. see you soon

When you say "there is so much difference in the way they run it amazing", what are the differences?

What characteristics are your boat showing?

What are the circumatances?

For example does the boat have trouble cornering, trouble in the SAW, rough water, smooth water, in traffic...what's it doing/when?

I think we need a little more information to really be able to help.

I can comment on this a little...

"the 440/3 and had bad pulling to the right and when you corrected it with the rudder the boat would lean to the left"

At slow speeds, and when the boat is really "wet" the boat will pull to the right with that prop. At high speeds and once the boat gets out of the water and up on the 'vee', it will track straight.

when using a 440/3 prop the boat torqued way over to the right, switched to shoboats chopper and it really came alive but all the negative in the world on the strut could not calm it down, 2 pieces of prather lead on the bow helped a lot. ran it sunday and it was really handling well and great top speed. will run it in maine against "mr blue ribbons" andy and see how it goes against his boat

I have been running one of Jerrys 20 monos that was actually built by jerry himself. It was actually built for someone else but credit card was stolen so i came along at the right time. Anyway I changed nothing and the boat runs great. It took first in district 3 last year and is semi-retired. When I do take it to a race it is still a top contender and usually takes a first except for driver error. The only thing I have noticed is that my motor sits back about 1/4" more than all the others I have seen. The problem with that was that i was getting water over the deck into the carb. I just made a flap to cover from the deck to the head on the motor and I was fine. This error changed the CG a bit and actually helps the boat to run a little looser which is great.

well I will tell you my experience on seaducer & other mono`s in general. the mrger has a instruction sheet. it is best that the boat is always set up per instructions. Seaducer is tank location, engine, hardware location sensitive. I cannot tell you how many seaducer I have bought used & relocated the engine that was WRONG. Located the tanks that was WRONG & built incorrectly, Relocated the transom hardware that was WRONG. Now having said that. If the boat is Built Correctly?& there are running problems. Strut adjustments are the 1st tuning tool. Also make sure the GREAT Prop the mrger has suggested is used to test the boat. Raising the strut Kills some ability of prop lift & will allow the boat to ride freeier. BUT you will give up corner speed & the smoothness of keeping the nose down in the corner. If the boat performs best with a raised strut?? & the boat is not laying over in the turns. I would then move the engine back 1/4 to relocated the CG of the boat. Then you could push the strut back to the mfger spec`s. If you want to know where the CG is on Most Nitro mono`s it is Just infront of the leading edge of the Flywheel. Someone talked about a seaducer tracking left or right. 1st shim your radio box tight into the hull. Make sure the rudder linkage has NO Slop. Servo is mounted tight. Then turn the radio & boat On to see if you can change the angle of the rudder with your hand. Any movement-slop is a problem.I set all of my seaducer up to track straight when the throttle is WIDE OPEN........ If the boat is too loose? the rudder length is a tuning tool too. Very few seaducer I have seen work well with angle in the strut. Now this is just my experience. in 11 years of IMPBA racing I have owned many seaducers. jw

Joe . thank you for posting this . i see so many threads where guys are asking for setup instructions and why the boat does this and that etc . Guys....go with the baseline setup criteria and then tune it yourself based on what you have hopefully learned !! There is no finite answer to this deal ..you have to FIGURE some stuff out for yourselves when it comes to fine tuning a RACE BOAT !! PAY ATTENTION to the way the boat is running !!!

EVERYTHING IN BOATRACING IS NOT PLUG AND PLAY !!!!!!!! :)
