Anyone Running a New VAC 45 in a Current Surface Drive Seaducer 45? it looks to have more Muscle than the black head picco 45. Hopefully it will pull more pitch & prop. I will soon find out.......

I don't know Joe. Last I heard the Vac .45 needs $200.00 worth the mods to be competitive. I was looking at the latest Picco .45 today and it looks sweet. Or, the AA from Al Hobbs is a work of art. Just my opinion.

45RS cant be beat with the right mods.

Pulls all the pitch you will ever need at 28000RPM.

Can run X455/3 no problem.

The VAC 45 needs the head volume adjusted for the percentage of nitro & the rest of the numbers are very good. Larger case volume larger transfer & boost ports & Skirted piston & Steel Rod.....Looks Awesome internally!! The A/A turns a lot of RPM But I dont know if it will turn More Prop (cup) than the black head ??? I have a New Blue picco 45 ordered. Maybe I can get it in my hands soon?

Ron, I dont know who would have said that? The New Vac 45 numbers are perfect. Ex 188-190 transers 130 intake closes @ 65ATDC. Only adjust the head volume & you are ready to Rock! The Current VAC 91 will pull more prop than any 90 engine I have seen to date. I easily ran 1667 CMDI 6.9 cup full 67mm props on my twin @ charleston in Oct... Could have loosen the boat up & proped up to 7.0 7.2. The VAC 91 can be raced out of the box & that is exactly what I done. If you need a CMB Engine Groomed?? Steve wood is documenting most current CMB Race engines & is a Great Source for Excellent Engine Work...His prices are reasonable & the return is quick.

I got that from a pretty reliable source Joe. $535.00 for the motor and $200.00 for Stu to prep it. Why is it that Picco's can sell for $395.00 and AA's for $410.00 while the CMB Vac goes for $535.00? Way too rich for my blood.

You know when we were buying Picco 45 black Heads I was buying them for $235 ea. Not today?? Just paid little over $400 to get a New Picco engine. Frank O Charged 150-$160 9 years ago to Mod them too..... All engines can benefit from a little extra work. If you got to have Max Effort Performance? I recommend it on all engines! Big or little. If you really want a SHOCK? Build a New Twin with nothing but a Check Book You will be lucky if you can keep it under $5000 with all new parts & Ready to race... Then round yourself up about 30-40 gallons of premium fuel too.So you can race it a few times.

Mr. Ron,

I am interested in accurate information being published. There are several inaccurate parts of your statement. The motor retails for $515.00. I do not make a market in doing motor work and if I did, $200 would be too much. I will tell my customers exactly what I do to set up the motor or refer them to a motor guy like Steve Wood. We ran these motors STOCK for several months with just general clean up and setting the head clearance. The power we saw was beyond any 45 motor that I have ever run. Recently, we opened the head volume by .01cc to get the head clearance down to .010" with even better results. It is great that customers have choices these days but remember, "What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday".

I agree. Steve prepped a Orion Wasp .21 for my Blackbird hydro. Not the most popular .21 marine engine, for sure. Steve off set bored the crankcase to accept popular nova/cmb carb neck size. Steve off set bored the case so the stock carb pinch bolt could be used. The timing numbers Steve put in that motor are right on. Great performance, and very easy to tune. Richard D

Stuart,

I'm hoping the individual will chime in at some point. I only know and quote what I'm told. No lies here. But now that you're here... Why is it that the CMB Vac motor has to sell for over $100.00 more than the competitors? And, from what I saw at Hobart the vac .45 wasn't exactly a dominent force running any faster than the rest of the fast .45 boats. Or did I miss something?

Ron

Ron,

Initial test on the 45VAC had it running 88mph on the straits and 82mph coming out of the turns. It was able to pull an Octura 1860 blade. That is dominant to me. At Hobart this motor took first and second place out of a field of 20 (good running) hydros. The price is what it is. Why don't you tell us the name of the person who gave you this info. Also, since you have issue with this motor, call me and let's discuss it.

In hopes to put an end to this hi-jacked thread I just want everyone to know I took Stu up on his offer and gave him a call. Turns out I've been somewhat mis-informed and wanted to apologize for any negative I may have shed on the Vac .45 motor or Stu personally. I probably should have called sooner, but better late than never. "Merry Christmas" Stu. Lol Big hugs...

Ron

Never Hurts to have a HEMI under the hood & a GOOD Prop...
