I just got plans for a Hawk 7.5 hydro, 7.5 is pretty big for me so I plan on reducing it to 3.5. Is there a formula or something to shrik down the original plans? If nobody know i might just talk to gary.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil, I don't know anything about shrinking those plans but I've been wanting to buy a Hawk 7.5 kit. I've actually been wanting to enlarge the plans to build a bigger rigger. Where did you get the plans? Do they look like they show enough detail to make your own parts?

I actually got the plans from a guy named Bill, he gave make a schematic, instructions and pictures. It looks pretty simple, the only hard thing will be drawing and cutting out the parts. Im going to go to a scanning place and reduce the schematic to the size for the 3.5, then i can scan the manual and send it to you along with the real schematic.

Phil,

When I first started building my BlackJack21, I started by making a complete drawing of my 45 boat on Auto-Cad. Then I asked around for an "ideal" aft-hull length (trailing edge of front sponsons to the drive dog). Then I used a feature on Auto-Cad called "Reference-Scale", where you pick two points and assign a new dimension to it and it rescales the entire drawing to that new dimension. In my case it turned out to be a 90.5% scale-down, and so far it works very well.

Thanks. Brad.

Phil, that would be great :D !!! I really want to build one of these. If I can scale it up, which I'm sure I can, then I can run a Zenoah in it. Let me know. Thanks!

Go to Kinkos, they have blueprint copiers, to make scale copies off the original.

Phil,

I did a quick search on the internet and found that the Dumas Hawk 3.5 is 33 1/2" long and 17 1/4" wide. From your plans, you know that the 7.5 Hawk is 35" X 20". This is just basic info but it should help with your plans reduction.

I tried doing the math but the ratio doesn't work out for both length and width  . 33.5"/35"=.957 or 95.7%. 17.25"/20"=.8625 or 86.25%.

Maybe you could take a rough average and scale down the 7.5 plans by 10% ?

Thanks alot fir the conversion Danny, it will become very helpful! I think ill round it to 15% and see how that looks. The plans scale is .8 to one inch, i might just use that? ;) Me and my dad looked over the plan and It will be quite the challenge, I dont have many of the tools required, like no drill press and no band saw! I might have to draw them out and do a little before or after school, i dont really know. Where is a good place to get stuff like sponson tubes and those clamper things? I think it may be wise to start out by getting plans for the wildthing, its a bit simpler. And as practice goes up all do things a little more difficult.

Thanks!

The 10% sounds better to me. Gary narrows the tub on his anyway. I'm building another one, I will narrow the tub also.

Clay,

Nope, no plans. I only have my templates and jigs. I'd be happy to build one for you, though. See my listing in the "For Sale" section for "BlackJack21".

Thanks. Brad.

hi! if you have a CAD program, scaling drawing will be easy. you can even insert a scanned drawings and tracing in CAD. that's what i've been doing in making my own plans.
