Hi guys,

just wanted some advice,

how is it possible, if using a S-bend shaft log in a JAE rigger, to make it a removable shaft inner and still have the outer tube glassed into the boat, I'm building a JAE 101 rigger, and an s-bend is recommended, do I just make it all permanent glassed in, but still use a short outer tube at the engine end for strength

thanks in advance

Shane, If I remember correct Don F built one with a removable shaft. You may want to ask him. Just a thought. Ryon

With a jae style hull with a ski, damage to the stuffing tube is much less likely. i run a single tube (no shaft log) on my .21 jae. 4 years, crashed every way imagineablez no issues yet. if you anneal the inner tube well, you cane work a damaged on out & a new one in. i watched don f. do it at a race.

This can be done the same way as a normal removable shaft. Instead of mounting the engine flat you put a couple of degrees in it and try to make a very slight bend in the tube that's glassed into the hull. Then heat up the inner tube before pushing it through the outer tube. I have successfully done this on a couple of my boats. Good luck.

If the s bend is done like the 21 boat, it is almost impossible to get out and if using a regular motor mount there may not be enough depth in the tub to get 10 degrees . Someone will be able to state the advantage of the S bend over the J bend. I say it's builders choice and prefference.

thanks guys,

I must admit, i like would prefer the standard j bend - like in the sgx's
My dad did one of his 21's that way and the boat was just as fast as the ones he built with an S bend. If you do it that way just make sure you set it all up and check the flywheel clearance before permanent mounting.

Brad the S bend offers a better mechanic suport to the flexshaft and you are able to keep the motor lower in place .but as David stated check the flywheel clearance with the floor botton to avoid problems with your starter belt.I built the first Jae gás with a CMB 101 using this shape and even have sold this boat two years ago its still running great with no issues.Gill

I setup my JAE 67-101 & MY JRX 67-101 Outrggers with my engine flywheel touching bottom with a hull pan for clearance of the belt & a mild s-bend & with a removable rear strut. With all the testing...I have never had a problem with the s-bend. My s-bend is a three piece brass tubing to have a removable strut....never had a problem with it.
