Rudder setting on a rigger

I recently copied my model settings from an old transmitter to a new one (3vc to 3vcs). I noted down all the settings and noticed that on rudder I put the same settings for left and right. I mostly I run riggers and thus left turns are hard, so it makes not much sense. I was wondering how do you set your rudder?

Also does anyone use these exponential rudder setting?

I turn down the end points.

I use a little expo, usually no more than 10. It softens the dead center a little so if you flinch the boat doesn’t do a quick unintended change of direction. On Futaba radios you would use -10 and on Spectrum a +10, not sure on other brands. If you go the opposite way they get more sensitive at dead center. You can also slow the servos down which will also smooth out the hull response.

I run the left slower than the right and about the same end point so if I need to dump it to avoid hitting another boat I can.

Most dial down the left EPA slightly over the right side but as mentioned you need that oh crap throw left in a little bit for emergencies.

I do not think those radio's have steering speed.

If they do not have steering speed that makes them nearly worthless for r/c boats more so for especially fast ones.

Just not easy to drive a boat if you can't turn down the steering speed.

Almost no one would want to drive a r/c boat at full steering speed.

You would need the steering connected at the servo with a very short horn to help slow it down best you can and it would still be a handful compared to a radio that has steering speed you can turn down.

I run all my stuff at full speed but set end points . I can't overstate checking endpoints before each heat . I recently came into the dock slowly after a heat and my boat failed to shutoff . The throttle linkage had changed in the box and was not completely shutting off on my twin . Going slow, but stil hit my friends boat and did some damage which was a really bad situation.

I slow down the rudder speed on all my boats and it makes me look better as a driver. In the past I used slow servos but with todays radios believe me when I say slowing the rudder speed can only make driving better. It took Dick Tyndall, Willy McCauley and a couple others a few years to get me to try it and I can't thank them enough.

I get questioned all the time that I have lost it slowing down servos in my boats.. BUT.. until ya try it...

With our radio's now. In all forms of RC, we All,,, can with a bit of thought. Adjust each model to be the same as the one we just switched from. Ask GRIM. FLYING helies each one has to fly the same. (Within reason)
