So sad to lose another long time boating friend. Rod told me more than once over the years that he knew he was on borrowed time thanks to 'Nam and Agent Orange. Gonna miss his lively and candid phone convos.....

talked to him several times on the phone but never met him in person, sad to hear that we lost a boating icon. brilliant and very gifted person. good wishes to his family and hopefully they know rod was liked all over the world. rest in peace

The last model boat project Rod was working on just before suffering the stroke was a 24" 3S Kneeler I built for him. Rod raced full size outboard hydroplanes while in high school and college. Rod spent a lot of time talking to me about his plans for this model. He had removed the graphics that came with the motor and make a Mercury appearing cowling. Rod was an amazing craftsman. While I was building this model he said, "Make those seams and joints tight Dunny. I don't want you slapping any body putty on this boat." His plans were to clear coat the model and then use black trim tape to accent the hull. Carol told me when things settle down she would return to the boat to me so I could finish it in honor of Rod. Like so many who have responded to this post, many, many wonderful memories of being with Rod or taking to him.

I’ve only talked to him once never met him and man is he a wealth of knowledge. There wasn’t enough time in the day to chat with him.

He will be truly missed by those that new and spoke with him He was a great source of knowledge and was willing to share it with those that asked. I never met him but had talked to him every few months for the last couple of years, rest in peace Rod! Another great gone from our hobby.

I just heard from Carol and she is planning a Celebration of Life for Rod either Saturday, March 12 or Sunday the 13th. It will be at a restaurant in Mondovi that they frequented. She will be making final arrangements soon and will let me know once plans are finalized.

We are sorry to hear this but we hope that eventually the memories of the good times many of us shared with Rod, will again bring back some smiles, especially to his family, but also those of us who knew him well. Rissa & Olly.
