Hello-

I got out of R/C boat racing in the early 90's after having been involved in it for 20 yrs. Now that we're retired, sure would like to get back into it.

Having a hard time locating hulls and engines. Looking into an Aeromarine Sprint Cat with 82cc nitro power, and either a 3.5cc or 7.5cc rigger.

Please advise of quality sources for the above- R/C boating sources seem scarce compared to what they used to be.

Thanks in advance for advice and recommendations.

Regards-

tim

Check out manufactures & suppliers on forums. Not as many engine suppliers in the over 45 size and as boats go there is Zippkits, Cmdi and ML boat works, plus others. Depends if you like to build or want glass?

Hi Tim,

Welcome back!...Here's an idea if you are interested in nitro boats. This coming January there will be a large three day race in Brandon Florida, there will be many different boat types & sizes from most of the leading manufacturers as well as some of the top builders competing there themselves. Plan a vacation around those dates and come visit us, it will give you an opportunity to have an up close look at the boats and see how well they perform, as well as talking to some of the guys that can answer many of your questions and point you in the right direction.

All the best,

Elias

Tim,Your name sounds familiar from way back in the 90's. I stopped in the mid 90's myself to raise my two girls, and just started back about 4 years ago. That pic you posted looks a lot like a fleet of boats a friend of mine, Art Valdesere from NY ran back in those days. He loved his aeromarine cats!!!! He walked with a limp from I believe an old war injury, and loved to drive south to run local races in Atlanta, Savannah, Greenville, SC, Charlotte, and others. If I can help you in any way, PM me.

Welcome Back!!!!!

Hi Tim and welcome back!

Things have changed since you took your break, gas power has become huge and FE is gaining steam as well. There are still plenty of us running nitro and as for 3.5 and 7.5 riggers if you are looking for something fairly soon I would say a very good starting point would be the Roadrunners, you might remember that name as they've been around for a while. They are very good race boats, fast and stable plus Ralph Almirola is a great guy to work with. Another good choice would be the Eagle SGXs from Andy Brown though they are a little more "hands on" as far as driving but also very good race boats. If you like to build the JAE 3.5 rigger kit has looked good as well. As for the above recommendation about the Phantom, I would wait and see as those haven't even gotten wet yet and need to "show their stuff" on the water. No slight against them just the final proof is how they run and over the years I've seen boats that looked great on paper and were dogs on the pond.

Don, as I have repeatedly said, the PHANTOM II line of boats will not be released until they are thoroughly tested on the water. We will post videos and pictures of these tests.

Welcome back, hold onto your hat as the currently produced motors are WAAAAAY better than back in the 90's and boat design has stepped up also.

There are a lot of good choices out there, your best bet is to go to your local pond and see what's being ran.

Can't go wrong with a CMB and an Eagle SGX rigger with O'Donnell fuel and glow plugs. Don't forget a good Futaba 2.4 radio.......

Hey Tim,

Welcome Back!! Whalen the name is really familiar any connection to Tracey Whalen??? Since you said you got out in the 90's it was 96 in Daytona for that unexpected disaster! Nuff said there if related how's Tracey doing?? It was then that I was transitioning to Gas from Nitro and haven't turned back..

We are running just as fast as F-Hydros of the 90's with 23-30 Gas Sport Hydro and fuel is cheaper no glow plugs no lugging battery box and starter and Gas Boaters are just plain more friendly!!! You can register into Jim's RC Boat Dock.com and it's basically a Gas site but has all the enmities of links to distributors and for sale yada yada!!

Later!!

Pat

Welcome back to boating. Check out the various websites to see what is readily available and what the various suppliers actually want for their products. There are several good engines, radios, and boats available at prices from fair to unreasonable. Don't hesitate to check out the for sale section here on I.W.

Take the time to go to some of the races in your area to see which classes are popular and what everyone is running.

Don't hesitate to ask questions here on I.W.

Hopefully I'll get to run with you some time.
