o.k guys,,, i need some advice on a vintage control line boat.... this guy i know dropped off an old control line boat,,,maybe its not even control line,, im not sure....anyway... its a little beat up but still has the original stickers and the cox .049 engine,,at least i think its a cox is still in good runable condition,,, actually it fired up first flick of the flywheel... he wants me to "restore" it,,and possibly make it function....

ive never even held a boat this small.. has the stuffing tube still also... i know i use piano wire fro the shaft.. and making a collet for the engine is simple enough,,, but what the heck would i use for props??,, where would i find them small enough to work on this thing???

the decals on it still have the name and its called the buckeye jr.,,,, does anyone remember this boat?? and who made it??

to me it looks like a wooden dutch shoe.......lol............ it basicaly shaped like the old barrel back boats... any info would be great...

thank you terry,,, much appriciated sir.... that will do the trick... the 1/8" shaft bore is gonna give me a little issue,,but nothing a lathe cant take care of :D ...

engine is in pieces in the crock pot.. should clean up fairly nice,,, will have to machine and thread a back plate as the one on it is broken,,and as you know,, thats how they mount...

again im not so sure that its a cox engine,, but for sure in the .049 size... the crank case look kinda like a triaangle rather than the square cox cases,, back plate threads in,,which i know old old old cox engines did.... the difference is that the fuel tank isnt in the back plate like typical cox engines...... this would have had an external tank,, fuel nipple sticks out the side of the venturi,,and needle obviously on the other side...

its a neat little thing,,,and id like to for sure make it functional,, he would like that alot... its for sure made from either a solid hunk of balsa,, or thick balsa sheets laminated,,, im leaning more towards solid chunk of balsa....the one bulkhead thats in it to mount the engine is for sure ply.. but its really a simple simple thing.. ill have to get some pics up.. heck maybe the dang thing is home made...

alden, get up with jetpack on here, he is a vintage boat nut, & a wealth of info on them. prolly a tether boat, not control line, as there were no controls......

i will robin,,, thanks for the info... i tried to call you a little while ago but it went to a voice mail thing,,, i left a message... engine cleaned up nice,, after i pulled the engine down,, i noticed it was made after 1957 cause of the rod design.. thats if it is a cox.. anyway it will run just fine..

that is funny greg,, i saw that too... 3.95 to your door with everything but the engine...lol.. even had a brass prop... man wish i could find the original drive hardware instead of making it... but its hard enough just finding info on this thing,, let alone parts..lol...

Alden, I have a couple of .049 size props in package yet. may be something you could use. let me know. John Maki

Alden, props sent by U.S. mail today. Good Luck with the boat restore-ation.

Thanks John Maki

p.s. I think the boat is one you start and let it Free Run. I could be wrong though.
