CMB 45 purple, AB 45 parabolic pipe, 1457 cup 4.4, boat weighs 5lb-10oz dry. Been all over the place with pipe length, can't seem to find the sweet spot. Any suggestions. TIA Hammer

Ray,

When I ran a modified CMB 45 purple here about 5+ yrs ago I had it about 9.5" with a drilled parabolic. My picco 45's have been shorter. The OPS 67 nitro pipe runs very well with that engine at 9.5" also. Another option for you to consider.

Forgot to ask - is it your rigger or Sport 40? The setting I gave you was for riggers. Sport 40 is longer and high heat it is even longer.

How hot has it been when testing? My bardahl sport40 with two different purple heads and that pipe would not get any good rpm either. Ran fine eariler in the year now we had 90-98 degrees and humid, no go.

It's a 40 Crapshooter rigger. B) .

I tried the 45 parabolic on a purple head and didn't really like it. The best pipe on it was the OPS 67 with the stinger bushed and an add on Rum Racing muffler. I'd also wonder how that same OPS pipe with an internal stinger would work on that motor. :)

Ray my shooter with a CMB 45 purple, or the picco 8mm, with the pipe I got from Don and a 1462 at 9" and the boat is fast and on the pipe at low and high rpms. B)

Ray,

I know of another CMB 45 purple with a OPS 67 pipe, bushed stinger, in a RR, that is running very well, much better than a parabolic. May be a better solution.

Set at what length???

At 9 to 9.25" if I recall right. Slightly longer in high heat.

another pipe you may try if you are interested is the new cmb 45 nitro pipe.. they seam to work well on dad's 45 shooter.. that is with a rs motor but i would venture to say it would work well on the purple head also

Chris:

I agree, we have switched to the new CMB Parabolic Pipe. It works REALLY well.

Thanks men for all the info, my problem is I have nowhere to test except in open water. Some of you know how much I "love" open water, it's more dangerous then heat racing. .......

I totally agree and I test before I get to a race. If I can ever avoid open water testing, I do.
