I balanced and sharpend my new prop but how sharp is it suppose to be? i don't think it is sharp enough? any tips on prop sharpening

I am know where near a prop expert, but i like to have mine sharp enough to cut paper. I hold a piece of paper on edge, pull it tight and swipe the blade across the edge of the paper. If it cuts clean i know its sharp, if it leaves ripped, fraid edges it isnt sharp enough yet.

This is the way i do it, others might want it sharper,or more dull than other people so its basicaly personal preference, or a yep thats good enough after youve spent any hour on it.lol.

Cleaning up the cast is the most important part.

I like mine as sharp as possible, less drag in my opinion. I am no prop expert either so hopefully one of those guys will chime in.

I use a Lansky sharpening stone used to sharpen knives. It's about a 5 in long by 1/4 in wide stone from coarse to super fine and you can get your prop like a razor blade if you want to spend the time, but remember, just about every stroke on one blade means the same for the other (s) once it is in balance.

Camaroboy is very right on the cast, get those marks off of the center hub, less drag the better:)

alden & doug are both right ;) . some of the most comprehensive articles on prop sharpening & balancing are (or at least used to be, haven't looked in a while) on rcuniverse. posted as stickies at the top of their boating forums. check it out.
