Hey guys, I went up to the Power Master fuel plant this morning to pick up some stuff and since I've been seeing questions about where to get Red Max I asked about their club fuel program. They do sell at a discount to clubs (I didn't ask prices because I'm sure it depends on how much and what percent fuel you order) and would be happy to talk to any one interested in buying fuel. You can call them at (800) 847-9086 or (512) 285- 9595. If you get the recording just leave a message...they are pretty good at returning calls. They do not sell in drums because they feel there is too much risk in contaminating the fuel or having it absorb water over a period of time. They only sell fuel in sealed (you know that cool pop top ring thing under the cap) 1 gallon cans.

I can honestly say that I have been 100% happy with their fuel and consider it the best fuel on the market. Ross and I have been using their 60% nitro mix that comes with 18% oil (castor/sys blend) and have had no problems.

Hope this helps,

Glenn

I have used cool power and didnt like it.

have always had good luck with redmax, But will keep this fuel in mind.

Not to mention the profit margin is the highest by the gallon...... <_<

I tried it once, that was enough for me. Didn't care for it too much, very inconsistent on the needle from jug to jug. Switched brands, problems went away. Now I just mix my own, a bit of a hassle but I know exactly what's there. Different strokes for different folks though. I know people who don't like Red Max or O'Donnell's.

Tom, Power Master, not Cool Power...I have never used it so I can't comment on how good (or bad) it is.

Don, the consistency is one of the things I like the best...we've used over 12 gallons and have never had to change the needle. You are right about it costing more by the gallon, but I noticed the guys talking about having to go out and buy jugs to put their share of the fuel in so maybe it isn't that much more after all. And if I'm down to a gallon or two I would gladly pay another little bit to have it sitting in a nice sealed can as oppossed to sitting with a couple gallons of air on it in a 5 gallon jug.

Like you said, to each his own, I just though I'd pass on another option,

Glenn

Glenn this was a few years ago so who knows. For me since I burn an average of 30 plus gallons a season it's way cost effective for me to mix my fuel.

Don, Powermaster from a few years ago is not the same Powermaster. The changed ownership and moved to Texas recently. Since the move, they have become very consistant and the quality of packaging is second to none.

Hmmmmmmmmm...................

Buy your own - $25 + a gallon

Mix your own - $16 a gallon

Of course the $16 will be a little higher with shipping.

Basically the only diffrence in fuels is the oil. Yes, there are higher quality nitros and meths but I seriously doubt you would notice the difference. You can also store unmixed nitro without any worries of it absorbing moisture.

And at $25 a gallon that's buying in quantity purchase. The nitro from WorldWide is the 99.98% purity chinese nitro which is actually a bit more pure than what's coming from the only nitro plant in the US. It's just like Preston said, it all comes down to the oil. So if you really think one is better than another it's most likely due to the oil. And another thing for you guys who think you can't live without castor- castor oil begins to break down in the presence of nitro rather quickly & has a mixed shelf life of a year, AT BEST. If the nitro content is 60% or higher the breakdown begins immediately. Doesn't matter if it's a sealed container, it still breaks down. FHS has a real nice piece about castor-

http://members.aol.com/FHSoil/Castor.html

I knew of this before I read what they posted, but here's a bit from it-

"You don't have to believe us, but this is an experiment that you can do yourself. Just take your sample of castor, and mix it about 20% Castor to 80% Methanol or Methanol/Nitro blend (a typical fuel mixture). Depending on the quality, it can go bad in anywhere from a few hours to about two weeks. Put it in a cooler or freezer to speed up the effect."

So there ya go, some more food for thought to chew on..........

They make a good argument. I'll keep an eye out for what they say is a byproduct of the castor process from now on - I still like to run it in mine.

I like castor as it is more tolerant of a lean run. Plus I'm running shallow tapered piston and sleeves so it seals better and stops the chrome adhering to the piston instead of the sleeve

I only mix 5 litres of fuel at a time and it doesn't last long    Sorry for talking metric again. :p

Tim.

" I like castor as it is more tolerant of a lean run."

With the advancements of synthetics in last few years the synths actually are tougher in lean situations than castor.

Well I use Morgan synthetic 2 cycle kart racing oil in my mixed stuff. This is the same stuff Andy B. has been using for years! I don't know of many who push motors harder than Mr. 126mph. For over the counter pre-mixed it's been RedMax 900R blend with all synthetic. Had zero oil related failures on the 900R when I was running it. If it wasn't for the fact I burn over 30 gallons a season I'd still be running 900R. ;)

Powermaster is great fuel. I am currently running it. I was dissapointed last season when I tried to get setup as a dealer and or get some club pricing for our district, and could not get any information out of them.

I left probably 15 messages and even wrote a letter.

Pretty much all of NAMBA District 7 would have jumped in on the fuel order. I will start mixing my own after this runs out. I was very dissapointed in their customer service.

Jay doesn't that totally suck!?!?!? You'd think they would want the steady & most likely return quantity business. Like I said previous, for those who want to do club orders Red Max is the way to go. Good fuel & excellent customer service. :)

Don,

That does suck.. I am set up as a RedMax dealer, and have placed many orders for our district in years past. That is one fuel that I do not care for.

Talk about inconsistancy. I used to take RedMax gallons I thought I would use for the weekend and mix them in a 5 gallon container and then re-pour the fuel back into the 1 gallon containers. I did this to help try and gain some consistancy.

But... That is what makes the world go around.

Wow, that's odd. I used Red Max for years without issue until I began mixing my own. At 30-35 gallons burned per season I save quite a nice chunk of change by mixing myself & that makes it easy to overlook the hassles. B)

Don would you give up your blend how much of per gallon and were the best place to buy all the stuff you would need to make your own fuel B) B) Thanks Mike
