Anyone in here do ceramic powdercoating?

I watched a guy in a friends shop do it. I’m thinking about adding some of this equipment to my inventory. The lab-oven could also second as a Heat-treating setup.

Looks easy with the right equipment….any comments would be appreciated

My friend, Buster Graham owns Powdercoat Junction . The address is: 103 Turn Row, Lafayette, LA 70508. The phone is: (337) 235-4082. He has coated pipes for me in the past and does great work. I've attached a sample of his work.

Kevin,

Besides looks, what does the powdercoated pipe do for performance?

I have heard a lot about this process, but I have never seen the test

results. The oven would be a GREAT THING FOR PROPELLERS. :)

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Hey dudes,

I’m not sure what good powdercoating will do for pipes performance yet. I'm postive that powdercoating helps the pipe to stay cooler. I will try it on a couple of pipes and be able to talk more intelligently about it later. For now, I’m thinking anodizing is the best thing for improving a pipes performance since it makes the material considerably harder.

“Back in the day” when I raced bikes, the ceramic powdercoated headers were the way to go since it dramatically increased the rate at which the header could transmit heat to the atmosphere and provide for a more consistent tuned pipe temperature for a motor that was being cycled (pardon the pun) up and down the heat range of the motor.

The main reason I was looking at it is because the RC car industry is looking for better ways of cooling motors. There is a nitro engine modifier (JP) that uses this process on novarossi crankcases to increase the transmissivity of the case. I was thinking about creating some of the same product since their cases are going for Big Bucks.

as far as I know, CMB is powdercoating all of their .21 cases now...and rossi is Powdercoating their high end cases ......maybe they know something?

Just a thought,

Thanks for the input fellas

The ceramic powder is more than twice as expensive as regular powder. The regular powder will discolor but the ceramic powder is good for 1000 degrees. It's also deadly to inhale.
