Boaters;

Our pond has a shoreline full of cattails. You cannot even see lane six. We were testing before the Hurricanes and it proved to be a very frustrating mess even trying to get the retireive boat in and out. I need to know where to get a chemical that will kill these things without messing with the wildlife, (gators ducks, fish etc.)

Thanks

Just my 2 cents, but i have heard that the best way to get rid of them is to drown them. :D If your pond's water level doesn't change much then you can simply cut them down about 2 to 3 inches under the water level thus starving the roots of their oxygen. If chemicals are the way you want to go, this is what i have found:

Chemicals: "Rodeo" & "Cidekick"

Application Rate: mix one ounce of Rodeo and 1/4 ounce of Cidekick to a gallon of water. 100 gallons of this mixture will treat approximately one surface acre of Cattails. This mixture is sprayed onto the Cattails in a fine or mist type spray.

From what i have seen, you must leave this mixture on the tails for atleast 2 weeks before cutting to make sure it makes its way to the roots. If the roots don't die, they will keep returning. Hope this helps!

p.s. Both of these chemicals are approved by the EPA

Hi!

My Uncle had a big pond on his farm.. Every spring, he would cut the young cat tails with a sickle mower. It's like an 8' long hedge trimmer that is mounted on the side of a tractor at ground level. Got any friendly farmers near your pond?

Another problem we have it we have to file papers with the county and the Fed.s Our property owner will not touch them until we get that. The process is time consuming. We just discussed it at tonights club meeting . OOOOOF. Well at least I know how LOL.

Get an otter! We intentionally put cattails in our ppond (too small for boatin) it was pretty full and looked nice but an otter found its way here and within a week they were gone! From what we could tell it was only one otter too. But good luck finding an otter :p Or if the pond isnt that deep get some waiters and pull them out, most come out easily.

Phil <_< :unsure: :rolleyes:
