These pipes which are being wrapped, does it make a difference if they're watercooled or not? Would you wrap a watercooled pipe but not an air cooled one for example?

We've been cooling the exhaust coupler for years, mostly to save the o-rings. I'm not sure that in our modest performance engines it would matter.

I have tested water cooled aluminum flanges with o-ring couplers, steel couplers with high temperature gasket materials & direct mounted steel couplers without any gasket. There is a performance difference that can be seen on the dyno with a direct mounted type steel coupler, but this was not detected at the lake. However, there is a definite reliability & indefinite life advantage to be found, when a 5/16" thick steel coupler is bolted directly to the engine!
