want to know what a good starting point is for a picco bluehead exr,is it 91/2 or is it shorter or longer and what would be a good prop....i got a 1657 on for a starter prop...thanks guys..

Starting point may be better at 10 1/4" and work your way down running 50% . Prop might be a bit big, 245 or 1455 or X455? All what you can do is try it but don't get discouraged there is lots of help out there. This is a 45 right? Get ahold of Mark Shouland for better idea on props.

Pipe 9 1/4 to the center of the flat is a good start. If you can get a hold of a CMB Nitro pipe would work real good with the Picco you have. The only problem I see you might have is your rudder blade,it is tapered. They do not work as good as the straight blade. The tapered ones tend to make the boat pull right when you really start to go fast. Boat looks good, you will love the boat when you get the new boat blues out of the way.

James,

Stan is right, try 9.25" and look to go in about 1/8" at a time. You likely can run inside of 9' with the Picco 45, I do but I am at sea level. Measure from the side of the engine at the plug to the middle of the pipe weld. A 1657 is a lot of prop for a new engine and trying to find the right pipe length. Drop down to a 1655, a 1460 or a pitched up 1457 for test purposes. When all is in sync, then try the 1657, not before. You will find the 1655 and 1460 run very well.

A CMB nitro or the AA parabolic may be a better pipe choice.

Mike can help you greatly, listen to him. Take a note of what he is running.
