Got a couple of ? for you painters out there.

One, has anyone painted a clear over decals. is it hard?? what needs to be done to make sure the decal doesn't pull up.

Second. paint, I like the neon's, i have a ton of the pigment powder to mix with the clears. who make's a automotive clear that is good and resonable price.

The paint i get right now is coming from canada and the price is really high.

Thanks for your help..

OH, AND WHO MAKES A GOOD WHITE PRIMER THAT WILL SAND EASY....

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Chris-

#1- painting over decals is not a big deal. Dust the decals with a light coat of clear & let it flash off before you hit them with your heavier cover coats.

#2- I have a personal preference for PPG Concept paints. Check out the #2021 clear.

#3- PPG DPLF epoxy primer is available in white, gives a super tough base for paint & if you've properly done your prep work, virtually no sanding will be needed. DPLF can be painted over with no sanding, hence it's known as non sanding primer. I'll hit it with 600 wet to let my color coats lay down real smooth on the scale hulls.

Proper prep work is THE key. When you think your ready for primer, spray the hull done with water & look it over. Fix any imperfections that you see (the water magnify them) before the DPLF goes on & you won't have to worry about an "easy to sand" primer........ :D :D :D

If you shoot the last layer of paint 50% paint, 50% thinner, it will flatten the paint job like glass. ;)

Hey Chris:

You're using the Endura right? Where you getting it from and what price?

Don,

Thanks for the tips. I will give them a shot. How much is the ppg clear and the primers??

Terry, I must correct myself. yes it is endura. but the last time i got it was from a place in cal. I would have to look up there name in my records..

as for price, if and this is if i remember right it was about 60.00 per gallon for clear.

True, but if you do your prep work right you don't have to thin anything. Also I don't like going too thin as it will run faster & it can affect surface flash temps which is something you need to be careful of. If your surface flash temp goes above the decals glue temp tolerance you get gassing of the adhesive. Guess what that does to the decals............

Well the price is right if you're right on it, my price up here is C$128 a gallon which is about US$98 these days. That hazmat's a killer though...
