Are there any paint color restrictions deemed by the IMPBA?

I know someguys would run outriggers with the hull & rear sponsons 1 color and the front sponsons and cowl a second color. However now a days I see most guys paint the cowl and all 4 sponsons the same color. Was wondering if the governing body said anything about boats being seen on the water?

Jim, I dont know of any restrictions, but for courtesy to the other boaters, it is nice to have a vivid, bright color on at least 70% of the boat. IE, sponsons and cowl on a rigger is nice to be a bright color so you can see it in the water. But i dont think there is anything "in writing" on that subject matter.

To my knowledge, the only classes that have any paint or graphics requirements are the scale classes. They require the boat to be as close to the full sized boat modelled as possible

Many years ago, I showed up at a race in Dallas with my boats painted a dark blue. Steve Muck took me aside and chewed my butt. "If your boat dies, other people can't see it and they could damage their boats because you aren't smart enough to use a bright color. " I've never forgot it and usually my boats are orange or yellow.

Al,,

so you noticed what he said thats the importend contence.. (if its spelled liked that)

We have also had a darkblue or others... and its realy hard to see them if they stop.. I myself bought a boat.. not seen and when it came home it was painted black with golden stripes.. realy nice lookin.. but it became light red instead..

on my first race jews/wavewaker fliped his sport20 whip and my backer didnt see his boat and I hit it.. He had it stained dark!! Hopes he repaints it..Alot of the other guys had a very hard time seeing it too. Lucky both boats didnt have any damages on them.

"Silver" with blue details also looks great...... only three feet from you believe me ......in the middle of the lake in a cloudly day you will find out the sad way to find your boat.....mine lays on the botton of that deep water after had been sliced by two other boats...sad episode for all of us !

even bright colors don't help all that much if the other drive isn't paying attention, this boat is bright orange pearl and even its been hit.

but it sure does help a driver scan the course fast and find the boat! I can tell you from personal preference, blue or dark colored boats suck to try and find quickly by scanning the course in the middle of a race. A bright colored one is much easier to pick up on the location.

Well I recovered my father's old 40 Crapshooter after he passed. Was thinking about repainting the body all black with Flourescent Orange Cowl & sponsons. After reading this.... maybe I'll just keep it all white.
