Craig:Any chance an outboard .21 rigger could be built to be competitive at a local race in the .21 hydro class?
I was always intrigued by these boats and was thinking of building one. They are definetly not popular anymore.
Thanks.
i pm'd carl about 2 months ago, expressing interest in a heat racing ob hydro. he was concentrating on the saw version, but will continue working on the heat race hull, also. last i heard, john.Carl Van Houten contacted me about a year ago and told me that his team have developed a new prototype OB hydro, much better designed than the Sptifires, etc. They were much faster as well. He was looking at some possible SAW records with it. I have not gotten an update from him in a while. Maybe he will see this post and give us an update.
it is possible to keep up with an i/b here is the thing the newer engines on the sundowner or a grim is they will run with them you have to work at it i will try next year to build a outboard that will be more stable at high speeds the outboard where designed for mid 60 that is a stable boat for that time now 70-80 things change it is possible so if you have the time go for it and if you beat them it will eat there insides outi pm'd carl about 2 months ago, expressing interest in a heat racing ob hydro. he was concentrating on the saw version, but will continue working on the heat race hull, also. last i heard, john.Carl Van Houten contacted me about a year ago and told me that his team have developed a new prototype OB hydro, much better designed than the Sptifires, etc. They were much faster as well. if you can get a hold of sundowner or dehoog rigger with the right outboard motor it would be very competative, shaneAny chance an outboard .21 rigger could be built to be competitive at a local race in the .21 hydro class?

What about the El Tiburon, a 4-point 3.5 OB hydro from the Florida "Hawk Boat Company" group in the early 80s? I saw one once but did not see it run. The guy said it was 'unbelieveable', but I've heard that before....You need to look around for an old El Diablo boat. It is a design that has been around since the late 70's and was designed to be used with a 3.5 Outboard...
