Hey James! Welcome aboard!
These days the outboard scene is getting popular at the pond. The JMPBA still doesn't have a class for them, but some of the private race organizers are spreading the word that they are ready to hold tournaments exclusively for outboards. They haven't been specific about the type of hull, but I would like to see monos, tunnels, and riggers gain some popularity over here.
I have never owned an O.S outboard, but I have helped some newbies at the pond get them set up and on the water. They are very reliable, run smooth and when their needle is set right, they really wind out. Their low end is really responsive as well. All the guys here are using prather 215s. If you are using one for the first time (????), then I would recommend that you try it out the way it is out of the box. If you have and you aren't satisfied, I wouldn't know how to help you out. Check out the O/B forum, and see what those guys have to say.
