Helping a club member get this older motor back together. Any idea if the current rod fits it? Pretty sure it's a converted car/buggy motor but do any of "our" parts fit it?

Thanks.

Was the "short stroke" the same rod?

He's saying the piston doesn't go high enough in the sleeve when it's together.

This is an older long stroke engine, made about 2005-2010. The S21 case is the newer case and was used primarily by the marine side and has the 14mm crank. It uses the .767 bore OD sleeve and can use either the older R4 or the newer R7 rod. I rebuilt a couple of engines using this case.

Hey Terry, like Martin said, all of the Nova 21 marine rods (except the DD) have been the same length since the beginning. If the piston is not going all the way to where it should go, make sure the piston/sleeve are the correct ones. He may have one of the pistons with high wrist pin location in a motor that should have the lower pin location.

Keep us advised!!

Thanks for all the help guys, I should have the engine in the hands of my technician today, he'll get to the bottom of it!

Terry,

You got a lot of really good info above. If I can help you with anything just let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for the help guys.

He had an aftermarket head that had 0.020" clnc with no shims, I trimmed it up for him and all's good.

BTW, there was an R4 rod in it...

When I pulled the head I saw it was small so I had to measure it, 0.13cc! Definitely not stock, and looking at the carb and backplate I realized that I had one of Franko's creations on the bench.

Not sure how the head got so high either, he just changed the rod apparently.

I did the original work on intake and exhaust crank etc to Frank's specs, but I doubt thats the original sleeve or even crank.

It's seen gallons of fuel
