While racing this weekend a fellow boaters radio was freaking out when he got more then 30 feet away from his boat. My radio was 5 channels off but we came to the conclusion that it was my radio that was causing his problem. Now having said this, we found that this was realy only a problem with one of the two boats that he was runninig aganst me. He was using the same TX for both boats. one of them was quite raceable.. the other was not.

Any answers?

Maybe a break in the antenna wire, shorting the range is what I would guess. Get too far away & the reveiver can't get a signal. The servos start to respond to any radio noise that is close to the freq. :-

hello mike what kind of boat was his faulty radio in?also was the eng. running during this cond.?

Grim,

Either of you running FM vs AM on radios? I've had problems like that when I was on AM and someone else on FM.. The FM will over power the AM big time. I'm now running FM on 27 MHz and can still over power someone on 75 MHz AM... Confusing to say the least, but when the FM radio puts their antenna down 1/2 way, the problem goes away. Don't ask why or how, but I've been there, done that.

Iam no radio expert

Howerer, I am aware there is a phenomenon known as 3rd order interference

it requires that the users stand more than 9 feet apart to reduce or elimate it

see the notes 2/3's way down the page at http://www.silvertone.com.au/maa.htm

The page is for Australian frequencies but it seems reasonable to suggest it occurs with other frequencies as well

It might be worth checking the frequencies to see whether this could have been a problem

then there is the AM/FM clash and the possibility one radio was faulty or tuned off the designated operating frequency

This is good info

thanks

I also think that its just a case of whimpy am radio vrs hp FM system. It sould be 3rd order and i thought of that but going from odd to even chanels i thought i could count that out.

Thanks

Mke!

Have your buddy check every piece of wire in the radio box. Any bare wire is going to put noise out and can cause some strange things to happen. I saw a bare wire at the switch on a friends boat cause the freakiest things to happen, but only when the boat was running on the stand!

Later!
