Friends, I have been working with Nova about the flywheels that have come off. A few months ago they started to use a thread locker on the nut, but if you had an earlier one it did not.

If you had a flywheel come off could you please send me the serial number shown on the bottom of the motor. If you know of someone who lost a flywheel and doesn't look at IW please ask them to send me the number or give me a call.

Thanks!

Dan, yes it includes to .21 Keep OB's. As of right now there have been free replacements, but I hope that is about to change. Thanks for passing on the number...if I can get you a free replacement I will let you know.

Glenn, A.) My NR 46 serial number is 0031/13. Lost the flywheel, the nut and the ferrule on the first run. When you replace mine send the 3 parts to Ron Shaw as I borrowed these parts from his spare engine and they are locktighted onto my engine now and I am not removing them. B.) I was at the same race when Glover's case came off o his engine due to the short PTO screws. Once he showed me what happened I took my engine off and inspected mine, it has the short screws, so I locktighted them in, but they are too short, only 4 threads engageing the crankcase so I need the longer replacement screws. C.) Also, I have noticed the headbolts have zero corrosion resistance (see picture). This is going to lead to internal corrosion and eventual freezing up of the head bolts, and they will break off when you try to remove them to rebuild the engine. They must be raw steel, no plating or treatment at all. CMB, OS, Rossi even K&B head bolts do not rust like this. This picture shows corrosion from just a single race, and I clean and oil all of my boats and engines after every race. I should own stock in WD-40! Thanks for your support on these matters in advance. James Beasley

Glenn,

I hope you are ordering spare exhaust gaskets this time as well. Do you have any 46 OB pwerheads in stock now? If so have you rectified all of these issues with them and are they available for sale or ? Thanks, James

James. thanks for the comments! I just received my latest order with Rick's new motor and the new longer PTO screws. I am leaving town soon so I will not be able to get the replacement screws in the mail to everyone who needs them until the first week of June.

I have not heard of or seen the screw rusting problem before...I will let Nova know about it. If you flush the water jacket out and keep some oil in it there should not be a problem. Do you run in salt or brackish water? Even the original screws in my test motors still look new so I am just trying to figure out what may be causing the problem.

Yes I just got a bunch ot the .46 OB's. I haven't taken one out of the package yet, but I'm sure they have the locking compound on the nut and long screws in the PTO.

Thanks!

I never run in anything but fresh water. Yes, I know about oiling the water jacket area, but that does not penetrate into the crankcase head bolt thread area. I'm like you. I have no idea why these are rusting like crazy. Like I said, send my flywheel and parts to Ron Shaw. I'll get up with you for another powerhead package later, no rush.
