I would like to know what I would need to convert my 45SGX from nitro to brushless. I know I would need Batteries, Motor, Speed Control, motor mount, collet, etc.....but I would like to know suggestions/opinions of what manufacture of each of the items I would need. I would like to get 80+mph out of it and I am sure it is possible. What kind of run times would I see out of this setup? I am just tossing around the idea and figured I would ask the FE guys.

Thanks

Firstly what is the boom spacing?

On my rigger they had to be wider to fit in the cells. This could be the only major drama you have with the conversion. What is the length of the 45kit also.

I would look at a 6s setup in that boat.

1527/1y would be my motor of choice, with a 1657 - it would HAMMER (other props could be used also)

Lets just get those questions out of the way and i can help more

Dave, the length of the boat is 35" and the space between the booms looks to be be right a 6"

This might be where the biggest problem is - easy to fix just depends if your keen to do it.

cells that i have found are best are Hyperions - some use others but you will find that most cells with enough capacity. (5000's or better) will be over the 6inch lenght.

See this page for reference - http://www.rclipos.com/Hyperion_G3_VX.htm

You would have to redrill the sponsons and move that rear boom back 1inch to fit cells in between them. Or you will have to have the cells on an angle in the hull not flat and build a cowl around the cells.

What kind of run time would I get with this setup? The suggested motor and 5000mah packs?? Would I get the 80+mph out of it?? What speed control?? How much difference would I get with less MAH, looks like those packs might fit without modification

If its for racing - some one with regard to the US rules would have to chime in here. Im not sure on hull lengths and what total mAh rating (if any) they have...

But for still hard racing, and this is what i would use.

Hyperion G3 35c 6500 6s lipos. (i would have to use the 5500 cause our limit for 6s class is 900grams of cell weight)

Nue 1527/1y

1657 prop - really any 45 nitro props would be good.

I would limit run time to 2mins max.

You would be able to run a full mill and 5 laps with this setup.

80mph - it is possible but you would have to tinker with props and setup to get the best out of the boat.

I did that with my twin but i still want more to get up to that X-hydro speed.

Thanks for all the info. It wouldn't be for racing, just going fast.

Neu 1527 motor

6s Hyperion G3 35c cells

Hydra 240HV controller or Schulze 24.150 controller....I know Dave hates Castle ;)

Top of the line setup that should make you smile

Dave no offence but you bad mouthed them so bad I think you scared off any would be buyer. I know I have a brand new 240HV sitting right in front of me and to be honest after all the problems you had I am afraid to even solder it up. I plan on a 24.150 for my Sprint cat I am building and I might get one for my SS45 also.

No offence taken mate.

Its the truth- though i didnt bag them on intlwaters.

and i see on offshore there is some issues with them

Mate im scared to run mine.

hence on is in a box and the other is back in its box after being soldered up and bench tested once.

Maybe one day i will use them but for now, i think i will stick to those ESC's that work. It was costing me to much sending the broken ESC back to castle all the time.

Dave

Well my boat season is over now anyway so there is no reason for me to even solder my 240HV. I may hold off until next season and see if they come out with the Hydra Ice HV esc's. I have a couple of them in my heli's and they really work great and run cool compared to the other ESC's I tried. I am still going to get at least one Schulze and see if I like them better.

Here is a video of my .40 Cajun Bullet conversion to FE.... Running a 1527/1Y, 24.150 esc, 6s Hyperion G3's........ Did not have a GPS,, so I dont know the speeds.... Only problems I found were fitting the cells....

Dave,

It was running a 1655 modified.. I ran it with a 1455 also,, seems more consistant, but a touch slower....
