Went to pick up some fuel from Wildcat today and got some shocking news. The two plants that make methanol are closing for 6 - 8 weeks. I was told that their cost for methanol will be going up 40%, starting tomorrow. This will effect all mfgr's of fuel, not just Wildcat.

Anyone else hear any news about this?

Well the good news; methanol only makes up about 5% of fuel cost, nitro,75% and oil

20%. of fuel cost. Thats on 60% fuel.

Doesn't sound right about the price of methanol going up that much. There are a lot more than 2 methanol plants in the United States. The wholesale market price through september is $1.33 per gallon. The retail price should be between 2 and 4 dollars per gallon. The methanol production for the United States is presently at about 1,805 BILLION gallons per year. The European annual production is about 2,616 BILLION gallons. This isn't counting the production from all of the other countries. Sounds like your fuel supplier has been snorting some of that fuel he was selling you.

asfastaspossible, please note that he said he pays $83 dollars per CASE. that means 4 gallons per case. which is a hair less than 20 buck per gallon. not a bad price at all really... It is indeed MUCH higher over here in Europe. I recently paid 28 euros (about 35 dollars) for 5 liters (little more than a gallon) of 10% ntiro plane fuel...

I think we used to make our own fuel for around 16 bucks/gallon for 60% nitro, John Knight can elaborate, but thats a pretty close number.

Well, it's very possible that Wildcat will only buy from those 2 suppliers than to buy an inferior product :) John, the man I deal with at Wildcat, has always been straight up with me. He has always given me a 15% discount on fuel purchased from them. B)

I am able to pick up 5gal Methanol/No Lube and 5gal NitroMethane from World Wide Racing fuels for 200.03 Mix your own style.

we bought 53 gallons of pure nitro from World Wide for 916 dollars delivered, and 53 gallons of alchohol from a local race shop for $165 dollars, and we picked it up.. You save lots of money if you can pool together and get the materials in bulk. I also talked the motorcycle shop that I worked for into becoming a Morgan fuels dealer so we got the oil at dealer cost. I think we were making gallons 50% at around $14.75 per gallon, and 60% at around 16$/gallon.
