hey,

i have a very large displacement scale boat, nothing like most of your fast ones, and recently spent 150 english pounds on kit for it.

i got it all working fine but need help on prop size, whole steering apparatus and layout of all the kit inside the boat.

i am guessing that steering can be done by wire or rods right?

i would post a picture up as well as im sure you all could help better with a picture but i cant figure out how??

tell me how to post a photo and i will

cheers,

myles

What is the length of your boat? Engine size? Will the prop be submerged or sub-surface? Lastly, to post a pic, here are some short instructions. When you create a posting, look below. There is a line for "Attach:" with a Browse button.. Open this up and find the picture you want added from your pc to this site's db.. If you are on dialup, best to keep the size around 50k or so.. I'd keep it that size anyway since others use dial-up to logon and look..

Hope this helps out...

hey,

she is 48 inches

i have gone with electric kit rather than gas as thought would be easier and less costly etc so i bought the biggest engine i could find which is a Torpedo 850.

she is set up as a subsurface drive with the rudder directly behind the prop.

she is a model of a cruising boat along the lines of a grand banks but more classic.

she is pretty heavy made of wood

i will get some photos up tonight (im in england) as my dad is away with the camera but so far what would you do with steering?

thanks

Myles, my thoughts go along the line of using a solid rod. If there is a good deal of distance between the servo and rudder, take some brass tubing that would allow the rod to slide without resistance.. Set the tube up as guides, that way there won't be any slack on the rod.. Been there, done that with a sport 40.. If you want, I can post pics of this setup. But it will be another 10 +/- hours before I get home from work...

Mark.

Sorry, as for props, hopefully someone that uses EP will join in. If not, post your question on the Electric thread.. Sure to get the attention you need there. ;D

how much should one pay for servos? i had some but washing up was spilt on them by my mate! there are two futabu oens on ebay for about ten bucks is that about right

depends on what servo it is.. With the size of your boat, don't go for a "standard" servo.. IE: S3003.. Too weak.. Get something with at least 60+ inch oz of torque.. Someone on ebay is selling an offbrand servo with 110 oz.. Looked like a good price also. On another thread, there is some discussion on servo's and someone mentioned a very good servo for $25 or so..

cheers....

miles- the torp 850 is a huge motor, matt [aka bubba if you see him on here] put one in a Midwest Cranberry Isle lobster boat with a 12 volt weelchair batt and it practically flipped over backwards.....do you need an ESC? i've got a very nice [payed 50-something British pounds] scale ESC that handled an 850 and 12 volt battery fine. Electronize 43 VR is the name. Hitec 645/615 MG are cheap for the huge amount of torque they've got, might wanna look at those. what's the kit name?

Joe

hey, yeah i have a good esc not sure what it is but i paid 45 gbp for it and it works fine.

i also have what is almost a wheelchair battery. i will try and post photos as soon as a can.

the boat is not a kit as far as im aware, but you could probably all spread some light

so yeah basically can anyone tell from these sh!t photos what prop i need, the one ive got is snapped on one blade and where everything should be placed in it. where should the huge battery go?

cheers lads

there has got to be someone of you all who knows what is the best prop and rudder i could get on this boat....!! come on!

cheers

As I saw in your picture, you have a prop on there, measure the outer diameter & the shaft size in millimeters, and if the shaft is threaded or not?,,, this way maybe we can help,,, where is the rudder?,,,
